Cherry Monroe singer quits
Matt Toka, lead singer of Cherry Monroe, has left the rock band.
Toka, 22, a Youngstown native and a graduate of Ursuline High School, said that he no longer saw eye to eye creatively with the group.
The other four members of the band Dave Saltzman, Jason Levis, Ryan Harris and Frankie Bennett will continue as Cherry Monroe.
Toka's departure comes one month after the band announced that it was leaving its record label, Universal. The band is looking for a new label.
Cherry Monroe, whose members are from the Youngstown and western Pennsylvania areas, was about halfway through recording a new CD. It will now conduct a search for a new singer, said James Sliman, the band's publicist. The band will then finish its CD, including re-recording songs with the new singer.
Toka, meanwhile, is living in Los Angeles, where he is writing material, and plans to continue his music career. He has posted some of his new songs at www.myspace.com/matttokamusic.
