Crash leaves 2 dead, 1 seriously hurt
VERNON A 16-year-old Cortland girl was seriously injured and two people from Pennsylvania were killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday evening.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Amanda Allen was driving southbound on state Route 5 in Vernon Township at about 8:30 p.m. when her 1998 Chevrolet Lumina veered over the yellow line.
Allen's car struck a 2002 Chrysler van driven by Richard Reigelman, 61, of Jamestown, Pa., the patrol said.
Reigelman was instantly killed, but his passenger, Wanda Reigelman, 64, also of Jamestown, Pa., was taken to St. Joseph's Health Center, where she later died.
The patrol said it is not clear how the Reigelmans were related.
Allen was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where she was in intensive care on Friday. There were no passengers in her vehicle.
The one witness to the scene said Allen failed to negotiate a curve in rainy driving conditions, and her vehicle appeared to fishtail out of control.
The patrol's investigation continues.
