The White House press secretary is attending a Republican fundraiser tonight.
YOUNGSTOWN U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, will participate in a Saturday rally at Austintown Fitch High School for U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.
The event is set for 10 a.m. with actors Luke Perry and Adam Brody, and state Sen. Marc Dann of Liberty, the party's attorney general candidate, also attending. Perry, born in Fredericktown, Ohio, is best known for playing Dylan McKay on the 1990s television show, "Beverly Hills, 90210." Brody plays Seth Cohen on the TV show, "The O.C."
The Fitch appearance is part of Brown's tour of high schools, colleges and university to discuss problems with the cost of higher education tuition and what can be done to resolve them, said Ben LaBolt, Brown's campaign spokesman.
The event is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained at the Mahoning County Democratic Party headquarters at 103 E. Boardman St.
Clinton of New York, one of the most recognizable members of the U.S. Senate, has worked to raise her profile in Ohio considered a key state in presidential elections in recent months, including attending a fundraiser in Columbus for U.S. Rep. Ted Strickland of Lisbon, the Democratic nominee for governor.
Also, Tony Snow, the White House press secretary, is speaking at a fundraiser today for U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine, the Republican incumbent being challenged by Brown. The event is at the Georgetown on South Avenue in Boardman. Tickets are $150 each.
Hired as White House press secretary in April by President Bush, Snow hosted "Fox News Sunday" and "Weekend Live" on the Fox News channel and was the chief speechwriter and deputy assistant of media affairs for the president's father, George H.W. Bush, when he was president. Snow was raised in Cincinnati.
Polls show the Ohio senate race to be very close, with most of them showing a modest lead for Brown.
Also today, the county Democratic Party opened its Boardman satellite office at 451 Boardman-Canfield Road.
