Webelos Woods offers camping, other fun events for young Scouts

CANFIELD — The Whispering Pines District serving the scouting units of Mahoning County will host Webelos Woods on Friday and Saturday at Camp Stambaugh, 3712 Leffingwell Road, here.

The event will not only give Webelos Scouts the opportunity to camp out but also enjoy a fun and exciting weekend, including an Order of the Arrow Drum and Dance presentation, rope making, a campfire with songs, skits and a special guest, says the Scout press release.

The Webelos program is for boys in the fourth or fifth grade.

Along with district adult support, the event will be supported by local Boy Scout troops and the Order of the Arrow. Webelos Scouts and their dens will be there from Cub Scout packs throughout Mahoning County.

A boy may begin working on the Webelos badge as soon as he joins a Webelos den. This is the first step in his transition from the Webelos den to a Boy Scout troop.

As he completes the requirements found in the Webelos Handbook, he will work on activity badges, attend meetings led by adults, and become familiar with the Boy Scout requirements. This all leads to the boy's achieving the Arrow of Light Award, the highest award in Cub Scouting.

For more information about all the scouting programs, contact Sarah Marino, Whispering Pines District executive, at (330) 898-8474, Ext. 15, (800) 234-7268, Ext. 15, or at s.marino@bsa-gwrc.org.
