LT. CHARLES L. EARNHART

Biography

Born Nov. 6, 1919, in Lebanon, Ohio.

World War II pilot in North Africa with 12th Army Air Force. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Air Medal with oak leaf cluster.

Shot down six Messerschmidts and a Junkers troop carrier. During one mission, he was wounded in the chest, leg and arm, applied his own tourniquet and returned to his base.

Was shot down in enemy territory, but escaped German gunfire to return safely.

Became a prisoner of war in
January 1943.
