Hubbard man faces charges in theft of beer at Chevy arena
Beer cans fell out of the suspect's coat pockets, police said.
YOUNGSTOWN A Hubbard Township man accused of climbing into an unoccupied suite at the Chevrolet Centre and stealing beer is in big trouble.
The suspect, Erik Szelest, 23, of Chestnut Ridge Road, was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury Thursday on a fifth-degree felony charge of breaking and entering.
A police report said occupants of an adjacent suite complained to arena security Feb. 24 that two men were climbing into an unoccupied suite next to them and stealing beer. A city police officer said he found one man Szelest, who jumped out of the suite and ran through the seats.
Szelest fell and several beer cans fell out of his coat pockets before he ran outside, and police caught him under the Market Street Bridge and found two 12-ounce cans in his pockets, police reports said. Szelest offered to reimburse the arena $500 for the beer and damage to the refrigerator door, which had been pried open, police said.
