Traffic stop leads to woman's arrest

Police say they found crack cocaine packaged for sale in the vehicle.

BOARDMAN — A 23-year-old Mathews Road woman, initially stopped for a traffic violation, landed herself in the Mahoning County jail, accused of having drugs in the vehicle she was driving and fighting with a police officer.

Jasmine Molina was in jail Monday.

Early Saturday, an officer saw the vehicle Molina was driving west on Mathews with an expired license plate. When the officer began to exit his cruiser to approach the car, which had pulled into a business parking lot, the car began to pull away and nearly struck the cruiser, reports say.

The car stopped and Molina tried to get out of her car. The officer noted an odor of alcohol on her breath. She also initially provided a false identity to police, according to reports.

What happened next

Molina failed field sobriety tests, was asked to sit in the rear of the cruiser, struck the officer in the chest and tried to duck under his arms to get back to her car.

She resisted officers' attempts to handcuff her and continued to fight.

She acknowledged her identity, and police found that an assault warrant had been issued for Molina through Youngstown police. She also was driving under suspension.

Police found two bags of what they suspected to be crack cocaine in the car, and one of them appeared packaged for sale. Molina was charged with assault, drug possession and trafficking in drugs, all felonies, and misdemeanor counts of obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

She also was cited for operating a motor vehicle while impaired, driving under suspension and having expired license plates.

Molina is scheduled to appear today in Mahoning County Court here.
