Boardman jazz bands' annual concert Dec. 20
The concert is the groups' gift to the community, and donations won't be accepted at the door.
BOARDMAN The high school jazz ensembles 1 and 2 will present their annual holiday jazz concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Boardman Performing Arts Center.
The concert is the groups' annual gift to the community, so donations won't be accepted at the door. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
Traditionally, this concert features a few holiday selections and some standard and mainstream jazz pieces. Jazz 1 selections include "Winter Wonderland," "Baby, It's Cold Outside," "You're Still A Young Man" and "I Wanna Be Like You."
Selections to be performed by Jazz 2 include "Christmas Fantasy for Jazz Band," "Go, Daddy-O" and "A Big Band Christmas."
Both bands will showcase many talented young jazz soloists and some high-energy ensemble playing. The ensembles are under the direction of Thomas M. Ruggieri and Youngstown State University student-teacher Mark Gosiewski.
Jazz Ensemble 1 will accompany the Boardman Spartan Marching Band on a trip to Orlando, Fla., Dec. 27-Jan. 2. The marching band will perform in the 27th Annual Orlando Citrus Parade, which can be seen locally at 3 p.m. Dec. 30 on WYTV Channel 33.
The marching band will also march in Disney's Magic Kingdom and in the Universal Studios Macy's Holiday Parade, which includes many of the giant helium balloons used in the New York Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Jazz 1 is slated to perform in Disney's Magic Kingdom at Cosmic Ray's Starlight Café on a stage that rises up from underground.
