Commissioner to resign as school treasurer
LISBON New Columbiana County Commissioner Penny Traina said Tuesday she will resign as treasurer of the Wellsville School District.
Traina said she had talked to the board of education and informed it of her intentions. She declined late last week to announce her intentions before speaking with the board.
Traina said she will stay on to help the district as it searches for a replacement.
Without her serving as treasurer, the teachers wouldn't get paid this week, she said.
There is no conflict of interest in holding both positions, she said.
The new commissioner did not know how long it would take to name a replacement treasurer.
Traina was elected last week by county Democrats to fill the remaining two years of Sean Logan's term. He became the new director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
The new commissioner spent much of Tuesday traveling through the county with county Engineer Bert Dawson to see the various construction projects under way.
