2 local girls win state critter coloring contest
COLUMBUS — Erica Shirilla, 7, of Youngstown, and Callie Rose Pittman, 4, of Salem, were winners in this summer's 2006 Ohio Kids Love Animals critter coloring contest, sponsored by the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association and the Capital Area Humane Society.
Among subjects the participants could color were Annabelle the cat; Harry the Humane, a Labrador Retriever mix; Jax the brown rabbit; Lizzie the green iguana; Rocky the ferret; and Bert the guinea pig.
Erica, winner in the 6- to 8-year-old category, colored Harry the Humane because "he was cute." She said her favorite animal was the ferret, but she loves her dog Scout. Erica's other animals include a mouse, Snow Ball; a hermit crab, Porky; and a cat, Patches.
Callie, winner of the under-5 age category, colored Jax because "rabbits are nice and I have a friend named Jax." Her favorite animals are rabbits, puppies and tigers. At home, she has a rabbit named Max; two cats, Sunday and Rinky Dink; and two crabs, Terminator and Pearl.
