City to honor governor with 'Rendellfest'

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The city will host "Rendellfest" from 3 to 8 p.m. Sept. 30 to honor Gov. Ed Rendell, who will be in town to dedicate the new Zambelli Plaza at the corner of Mill and East Washington streets.

"We wanted to recognize the governor for the commitment he has made to the revitalization of our downtown," Mayor Wayne Alexander was quoted in a press release given out by the chamber of commerce. "By having the governor here for the Zambelli dedication he can see firsthand how we put to work the money he gave us a year ago."

Alexander said he hopes it will encourage Rendell to provide state funds for future development.

Rendellfest will take place on Mill and East Washington streets.

The Dorals will play from 5 to 8 p.m. at Riverwalk Park. The actual dedication will take place at 6:30 p.m. with the governor and other dignitaries present. There will be fireworks at 8 p.m.

Nonprofit organizations and churches are encouraged to participate in the festival by setting up booths along Mill Street.

For more information on setting up, groups should contact Cindy Park at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce at (724) 654-5593 or e-mail cindy@lawrencecountychamber.org. Deadline for reserving a space is Sept. 25.
