Two-car accident kills woman, 8-year-old son
FAIRFIELD A woman and her 8-year-old son were killed in a two-car crash on state Route 517.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Beth Ann Hallett, 40, and Asa James Hallett, 8, were passengers in the car driven by 35-year-old Milton Hallett Jr., husband and father of the victims.
All three lived in Beloit.
The Halletts were northbound on Fairfield School Road and stopped at the intersection with Route 517 at 3:44 p.m. Friday. Police said the Halletts continued into the intersection, but did not yield to an oncoming car heading west on Route 517 driven by Austin Dunlap, 18, of East Liverpool.
Dunlap crashed into the right side of the Hallett vehicle causing major damage to both cars, police said. Both vehicles slid off the road and into the northwest corner of the intersection.
Milton Hallett Jr. was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown for treatment and was discharged Friday night.
Dunlap, the driver of the other car, suffered a broken ankle and his passenger, Morgan Dailey, 17, of Lisbon, has minor cuts and bruises. Both were taken to Salem Community Hospital.
Police said both cars suffered heavy damage and all occupants were wearing seat belts.
