YOUNGSTOWN The core team of Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., will host a forum at 6:30 p.m. April 19. Political candidates who are running in the May 8 election have been invited.
One-day market set
CORTLAND Garden 2007, a one-day market, will be May 19 at the Trumbull County Agriculture and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St. Artists, craftsmen and antique dealers will be selling their merchandise from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the grounds. Master gardeners will also be selling perennials and other plants from their personal gardens as well as from the display garden. They will also answer questions about gardening. This is the second year for this event. Organizers are accepting applications for vendors. Vendors should call Virginia at (330) 638-1733 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Saturday.
Luncheon for volunteers
NEW CASTLE, Pa. Jameson Health System will recognize volunteers at a luncheon planned for 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Jameson South Conference Center, 1000 S. Mercer St. Volunteers gave more than 40,557 hours of service to the health system in the last year. Thomas White, hospital president and chief operating officer, will address the volunteers. This year's theme is "Volunteers are Priceless Treasures." The even is part of National Volunteer Recognition Week.
Help with heat bills
HARRISBURG The deadline for low-income people to apply for help paying for heating bills in Pennsylvania has been extended to Friday. The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program is also increasing its grant amount to $400. Anyone who already received $300 in crisis benefits can now apply for an additional $100. Grants are based on household income, fuel type and heating region. This year, a family of four with an annual income of up to $30,000 can qualify for assistance. Applicants must provide a recent energy bill in addition to income verification and size. For information, call (866) 857-7095.
Cash donations sought
YOUNGSTOWN Richard Brown United Methodist Church and Nevels Temple Church of God both need monetary donations to help fund their food ministries. The churches are partners with the Alan Feinstein Foundation, which matches donations that the church receives. Feinstein, a philanthropist from Cranston R.I., has given away $1 million annually to anti-hunger agencies throughout the country. Donations may be sent to Richard Brown United Methodist Church, 1205 Elm St., Youngstown 44505. The church serves the Northside Neighbors with a food ministry, which provides 80 to 90 families with two bags of groceries on the last Wednesday of each month. Donations may be sent to Nevels Temple in care of Sharlene Ward, the church's food coordinator, 53 E. Marion Ave., Youngstown 44507, which is the mailing address for the church's donations.
