DARROW DAY
Schedule of events
April 18
9 a.m. to 7 p.m.: Darrow/Kinsman displays at Kinsman Public Library, 6420 Church St.
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m.: Tea and stories at the Darrow birth home, 5788 Mayburn Barclay Road, Farmdale.
9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 5 p.m.: Octagon House Museum tours, 8405 Main St., Kinsman.
Noon: Commemorative service and eulogy at the Clarence Darrow Monument in the Kinsman Township Park, Burnett East Road (bring a chair if desired).
1:30 p.m.: Lecture and panel discussion: "Darrow and William Jennings Bryan Friendship" at Kinsman Presbyterian Church, 6383 Church St., Kinsman, $10. Gary Anderson, renowned Darrow portrayer to speak.
3 p.m.: Lecture and panel discussion: "Black and White Together." Panelists: Diane Barnes, historian; Mumia Abu-Jamal, journalist/political prisoner (via audio); and Staughton Lynd, historian and social activist.
4:30 to 6:30 p.m.: Roast beef buffet at the Kinsman Presbyterian Church. Reservation required by April 10. $8 donation.
4 to 7 p.m.: Chicken and biscuit dinner at Kinsman United Methodist Church, 8362 Main St., reservations not required, $6 donation.
7 p.m.: Birthday cake at Veteran's Memorial Performing Arts Center at Pymatuning Valley High School, 5571 U.S. Route 6 West, Andover.
7:30 p.m.: "Clarence Darrow: The Search for Justice," at Veteran's Memorial Performing Arts Center at Pymatuning Valley High School, 5571 U.S. Route 6 West, Andover. Gary Anderson, renowned Darrow portrayer, performs. Ticket prices $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. Call about special rates for groups and school classes. No one will be turned away because of inability to pay.
