3 teenagers charged as juveniles in armed robbery of restaurant
The teens are being held in the juvenile justice center.
NILES Three teenagers, including a 16-year-old girl, have been charged as juveniles in the armed robbery of an Oriental restaurant.
Police Chief Bruce Simeone said a 17-year-old Warren boy, 16-year-old Niles boy and the Mineral Ridge girl were caught by city and Weathersfield Township police Thursday night after a robbery at China Wok, 39 Vienna Ave.
Capt. Chuck Wilson said the older boy was charged with delinquency by way of aggravated robbery and the other two with delinquency by way of conspiracy to aggravated robbery.
They are being held in the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center.
Simeone said the 17-year-old, wearing a black-hooded sweat shirt, is suspected of walking into the restaurant about 7:45 p.m and aiming a handgun at the owner's face. The robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled out the back door.
The owner of Manfredi's Pizza near the China Wok had seen the gunman walk into the restaurant. The owner called 911 and he began to chase the gunman.
Suspects captured
Niles Patrol Officer Tom Townley, who was responding to the scene, captured the suspect in a lot west of Family Dollar on Robbins Road. A .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol was recovered.
Weathersfield Patrol Officer Rick Mahan, who was on Robbins Avenue and received a description of the getaway car, spotted a car matching the description behind the Robbins Avenue office of Dr. Michael Ciletti and arrested the other two other teens in the car.
