Methodist center gets grant from foundation
YOUNGSTOWN The United Methodist Community Center, 334 N. Pearl St., has received a $5,000 grant from the Kennedy Family Foundation, a component fund of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. Funds will be used toward services provided by the center.
The center has partnered with Youngstown schools and operates Family Readiness Center offices in 20 schools.
The center's Truancy Intervention Program system provides an effective method of delinquency prevention and behavior improvement. The center also provides school-based mentoring programs: Getting Ahead in Life and Building Individual Life Lessons.
Also offered is the Parent Service Center to link parents with resources to support individual family success plans, mobile dental van, holiday and school supply distributions, flu and pneumonia immuzation clinics and StopLift, which is a remediation and educational program for people convicted of shoplifting.
