Leno's Goddess statue final of 36 for art project
WARREN Jay Leno's goddess is scheduled to arrive in Warren today.
It's not a real goddess because those are hard to find, but it's an 8-foot-long by 6-foot-tall statue transformed at NBC Studio.
This is the last of the 36 statues created for the "Spectacle of Speed" art project sponsored by the Trumbull County Fine Arts Council.
On Oct. 27, Leno's goddess along with 26 others will be auctioned at the W.D. Packard Music Hall. Ten other goddesses have been pre-sold for $6,000 each to stay in the community.
Leno's goddess was created by the "Tonight Show" art director Dennis Roof. To promote the goddess, Leno had his picture taken with the statue.
The goddess will be displayed at the National Packard Museum gallery along with the vehicles that are being displayed for the museum's 18th annual car show. Leno owns five Packards.
The Goddess of Speed is the famed hood ornament that was located on many Packard cars.
Artists from Mahoning and Trumbull count2ies painted the statues. They were paid $1,500 each. The anticipated cost for each statue is about $7,500, but Leno's might go for more.
