16-year-old indicted in two slayings
One boy allegedly belonged to a criminal gang since he was 10.
YOUNGSTOWN A Mahoning County grand jury has indicted a 16-year-old boy in the May 20 armed robbery and slaying of two other 16-year-old-boys.
The grand jury indicted Adrian M. Sims, of West Marion Avenue, on two counts each of aggravated robbery and murder with a firearm specification to all counts in the shooting deaths of Troy Barlow of Breaden Street and Jaimie Helms of Cornell Street.
Barlow and Helms were found in a backyard in the 1600 block of Park Vista Drive on the city's East Side, shot in the head. Sims had been bound over from the county juvenile court to the grand jury for trial as an adult.
In August, a grand jury indicted Devron Pinkard Jr., 18, of Park Vista Drive, on two counts each of aggravated robbery and aggravated murder, all with a firearm specification in the same slayings.
In an unrelated case, the grand jury also indicted a second boy bound over from juvenile court, Jonathan Dent, 15, of East Lucius Avenue, on a charge of participating in a criminal gang.
Dent, who police listed as a member of the L Unit (named for Lucius Avenue), belonged to a gang from March 15, 2001, when he was 10, to now, according to the indictment.
