Mercer judge gives prison terms to 4
MERCER, Pa. The following people were sentenced Thursday by Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Christopher St. John:
David Campbell, 21, of Sharon Road, West Middlesex, was sentenced to 111/2 to 23 months in prison followed by five years' probation for aggravated indecent assault, a felony. Court documents state that between January 2003 and December 2005, Campbell had indecent contact with two girls, ages 13 and 17, in Sharon.
William Farris, 27, of Mercer Road, New Castle, was sentenced to one to four years in prison for conspiracy/retail theft and possessing instruments of crime, both misdemeanors. Court documents state that Farris conspired with another man to steal $838 worth of DVDs from the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, on Feb. 28, 2006. He also possessed five utility razors.
Jodi Shaffer, 36, of Perry Highway, Mercer, was sentenced to one to two years in prison and ordered to make restitution for theft by deception. According to court documents, she obtained two Social Security checks worth $1,377 belonging to another woman, then forged her signature and deposited them into her own savings account.
Devin Ian Smith, 20, of Washington Street, Farrell, was resentenced to 31 days to 23 months in prison for simple assault, a misdemeanor. Smith had previously been placed on probation for a Jan. 11, 2006, assault, along with several other people, on a man at a Frank Street, Sharon, address in which the victim suffered several fractures. Smith was found Oct. 19 to have violated several probation terms.
