Community Walk planned for Saturday
Community Walk
planned for Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN City school district staff, parents and volunteers will be canvassing individual school neighborhoods Saturday in the fifth annual Community Walk.
The program has school personnel walking through each school neighborhood, knocking on doors, handing out brochures about school programs and asking about residents' concerns or issues related to the schools.
This year's walk also will feature information about the 9.5-mill, five-year tax levy issue on the Nov. 6 election ballot. District officials said the city schools need the $5 million a year the levy will generate to overcome a $15 million budget deficit last year.
Groups will met at each school building at 9 a.m. and travel through each school's residential service area until 11:30 a.m. Everyone will then travel downtown for a rally at noon on Federal Plaza. There will be entertainment at the rally.
Salem city auditor
will receive award
SALEM Ohio Auditor Mary Taylor on Tuesday will present Salem City Auditor Jim Armeni the "Making Your Tax Dollars Count" award. There will be a public reception from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Salem Community Center, 1098 N. Ellsworth Ave., and refreshments will be available.
The public can meet Taylor, Armeni, as well as other elected officials from the county. Republican Jim Armeni has been Salem auditor for 10 years and is seeking re-election this November.
