Trustees fail to endorse a candidate for commissioner
The township association endorsed Republican Randy Law for state representative.

WARREN Trumbull County's township trustees have failed to endorse a candidate for county commissioner.
This is the first year the Trumbull Township Association has endorsed candidates, according to Dick Orwig, Howland Township trustee and the association's chairman for more than 15 years.
The commissioner race pits Frank Fuda, a Democrat Niles city councilman, against Republican Niki Frenchko of Warren.
Orwig explained that the association held a candidates' night Aug. 17, at which candidates could address trustees. Orwig said ballots were distributed and the vote was a tie for commissioner, so neither Fuda nor Frenchko was endorsed.
The results were not released until Tuesday, and the exact vote breakdown was not available.
Orwig explained that the association didn't endorse previously. The feeling among members before this year was, if the association didn't endorse a candidate who won, "we'd have to live with whoever was elected."
He said the change in position to endorse was "pushed" by trustees representing townships west of Warren such as Southington and Braceville. Those townships are seeking water service from either a private or public water supplier. They are currently served by wells that are bad.
Sam Plott, a Southington Township trustee and among those seeking water service, said the water issue had nothing to do with the association's endorsements.
Most are Democrats
Of eight offices in which the association endorsed, all but three were Democrats.
Incumbent state Rep. Randy Law, a Warren Republican, received the 64th District endorsement over Democrat challenger Tom Letson, a Warren attorney.
Diane Grendell, incumbent Republican from Chesterland, won the endorsement for the Feb. 10 seat on the 11th District Court of Appeals over Thomas E. Harris, a Democrat judge at the Conneaut Municipal Court.
Incumbent 14th District U.S. Rep. Steven C. LaTourette, Painesville Republican, was selected over challenger Werner J. Lange, a Newton Falls independent, and Lewis R. Katz, Democrat from Pepper Pike.
Other endorsements went to:
Adrian Biviano, Democrat county auditor, over Republican Elizabeth A. MacPherson.
Incumbent 65th District state Rep. Sandra Stabile Harwood, a Niles Democrat, over Arno A. Hill, Republican from Lordstown.
Incumbent 99th District state Rep. George Distel of Conneaut, a Democrat, over William Pikor, a Republican from Thompson.
Mary Jane Trapp, a Democrat from Russell Township for the Feb. 9 seat on the 11th District Court of Appeals, over Paul Brickner, a Willoughby Republican. There is no incumbent in this race.
Marc Dann, a 32nd District state senator from Liberty, seeking to become state attorney general, over incumbent Republican Betty Montgomery.
