Girts denied parole

Convicted murderer Robert Girts, 52, a Poland native, will have to wait 10 more years before he's eligible for parole.

That was the decision of the Ohio Parole Authority last week after an August hearing on Girts' possible parole, said Bettianne Jones of Columbiana.

She and other family members had opposed Girts' parole. Girts was convicted in 1995 in Cuyahoga County of killing Diane Jones Girts, his third wife and Jones' sister-in-law. He was sentenced to 20 years to life for the murder, with eligibility for parole.

His 42-year-old wife died of cyanide poisoning in 1992. The parole authority's decision means Girts won't be eligible for parole again until 2016.
