YOUNGSTOWN — They're calling it Penguins in Paradise as the Youngstown State University faithful gather this week for the annual homecoming celebrations.

The university has scheduled a weeklong series of events to mark the occasion, all leading up to a parade and the Penguins football game against Northern Iowa on Saturday.

The theme for this year's homecoming is "Journey of a Lifetime."

Among the events and activities are::

Tuesday: Make your hand into a wax trophy at the Wax Factory, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Make a contribution and get a free root beer in Chi Alpha Beer Blast III, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; KFC Snackers Sandwich Eating Contest, noon; all in Kilcawley Center.

Wednesday: Airbrush Tattoos, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Arby's Mozzarella Sticks Eating Contest, noon, at Arby's; both in Kilcawley Center.

Thursday: Music Video Bingo, 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., in Peaberry's Café; Alpha Xi Delta's Here Comes the Great Pumpkin decorating contest, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Best Wing-Ding Eating Contest, noon, Peaberry's Café; all in Kilcawley Center.

Friday: Williamson College of Business Administration Alumni Awards Banquet, 7 p.m., Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.

Saturday: YSU Marching Pride High School Marching Band show, 9 a.m., Stambaugh Stadium; Tailgating begins at 10 a.m., "Guys Without Ties" performs at 1 p.m. in the tailgate lots; Undergraduate Admissions Office Homecoming Activities, including balloons, snow cones, games and Jimmy Buffet karaoke, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Sweeney Welcome Center; tailgate parties for the Beeghly College of Education, Rayen College of Engineering and Technology and Williamson College of Business Administration, 1 to 4 p.m. in the M-7 parking lots; Homecoming parade, up Fifth Avenue, 2 p.m.; YSU Alumni Terrace Dinner, 2:30 p.m. at the Stadium Terrace; YSU vs. Northern Iowa, 4 p.m., in Stambaugh Stadium; Homecoming King and Queen crowned at halftime.
