Crash investigation
Crash investigation
WINDHAM The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash on the Ohio Turnpike involving a Campbell man. Police said John Makosky, 78, of Campbell was traveling west in a two-lane construction zone near milepost 203 in Portage County when his car struck and killed a pedestrian. Police said Jerry Floyd Jr., 25, was walking on the road when he was hit at 2:18 a.m. Saturday. Police did not identify where Floyd lived. Police said Makosky suffered minor injuries, but his two rear-seat passengers, Sara Makosky, 19, no address given, and Katherine McCue, 16, of Warren, were uninjured.
Deputy commended
NEW MIDDLETOWN Authorities concerned about two roaming pit bulls commended a Mahoning County Dog Warden deputy for his quick action. New Middletown Police received complaints about the two dogs near state Route 170 at 6:51 a.m. Friday. Authorities became concerned because children would soon be walking to school on the road. Officers tracked the dogs, and Dog Warden Deputy John Klenec used a tranquilizer gun on one. The second dog was also quickly located. Police said the dogs did not have collars. Anyone missing two pit bulls should contact the New Middletown Police at (330) 542-2234 or the Mahoning County Dog Warden at (330) 740-2205.
