Library to be closed
WARREN The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. N.W., will be closed Sunday, which is Mother's Day. The library will reopen for business at 9 a.m. May 14.
Cleanup day planned
YOUNGSTOWN Ambassadors for Christ, a neighborhood organization of churches, will sponsor an Eastside neighborhood cleanup day from 9 a.m. to noon May 19. Participants will pick up litter and other debris along Wilson Avenue between Forest and Himrod avenues. Sponsors are Good Shepherd Baptist, Mount Sinai Baptist, Mount Zion Baptist, St. John African Methodist Episcopal, St. Stephen of Hungary and We Walk by Faith Bible churches. For more information, call St. Stephen at (330) 743-1905. Lunch will be provided after the project. Rain date is June 9.
Straw poll to be taken
LORDSTOWN A presidential straw poll will be taken at 6 p.m. May 22 at Lordstown High School. The poll is open to the public. Terry Armstrong, high school government teacher, will invite a representative from all Democratic presidential campaigns to speak. A straw poll such as this can suggest the outcome of an upcoming election, Armstrong said. Ohio's presidential primary is scheduled for March 4, 2008. The school is at 1824 Salt Springs Road. Drop & Shop program
LAKE MILTON Residents will have an opportunity to drop off unwanted but usable household items and to take merchandise they need as part of a Drop & Shop program here. The free community reuse program is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Craig Beach fire station, 1797 Grandview Road. Items that can be dropped off and taken include sports equipment, curtains, kitchen products, clothing, tools, books and baby items, noted Sarah Ellis, manager of Youngstown State University's support services. People also can take such merchandise, she added.
Items that are not removed during the four-hour program, which is funded in part by the Mahoning County Green Team, will be donated to a charity, Ellis added.
