Niles man gets 18 years for rape of girl, 6
WARREN A 22-year-old Niles man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison on three counts of rape.
Jonathan Baumgartner pleaded guilty Monday before Judge Peter J. Kontos of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court. He was sentenced to three consecutive terms of six years in prison.
Diane Barber, an assistant county prosecutor, said that Baumgartner sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl in the winter and spring of this year in both Niles and Warren.
Barber said the girl's mother and stepfather contacted police after they heard a telephone conversation the girl had with Baumgartner.
He will have to register as a sexual predator.
Also in Judge Kontos' courtroom Monday, Dennis R. Negle, 66, of Niles and Hampshire County, W.Va., pleaded innocent to one count of gross sexual imposition.
Barber said the charge stems from an encounter Negle is alleged to have had had with a child under 13 this summer in Niles.
