Customer captures robbery suspect

The second walkie-talkie was found at the suspect's home.

YOUNGSTOWN — A Boardman woman who police said robbed a Taco Bell on Youngstown-Poland Road was jerked back into the business by a customer who witnessed the robbery.

Dana L. Riley, 36, of Matthews Road, was arraigned Monday in municipal court on a charge of aggravated robbery. Bond was set at $75,000 and a preliminary hearing set for Dec. 13.

When city police arrived at the Taco Bell around 10 p.m. Sunday, a Struthers officer was on the scene and had Riley handcuffed. Police confiscated a walkie-talkie and knife from the woman.

A restaurant cashier told police that the robber, pretending to cry, said that if he didn't give her money, someone would come in soon with a gun. The cashier put money into a Taco Bell bag and handed it to the suspect.

Apprehended

A customer who overheard the exchange chased the suspect and caught her in the parking lot. He grabbed her coat and pulled her back into the business. The doors were locked while everyone waited for police.

Once under arrest, Riley told police that a man and woman in a blue car picked her up and forced her at gunpoint to rob the restaurant.

When police checked out a report of Riley's arriving in a blue van, they found it in her driveway on Matthews Road and had it towed for detectives.

A 19-year-old man at the house told police that he and a woman had been with Riley at the Taco Bell and drove away when she got out of the van, saying she intended to rob the place, and asked them to wait.

When asked for the second walkie-talkie, the man said it was in the basement and turned it over to police.
