Residents urged to conserve water
LEETONIA — Village residents are being asked to conserve water starting at 8 a.m. today because of an apparent break in the village's main waterline.
A boil order will be in effect starting at the same time.
Any village water customers north of the village's water tank — which includes the Leetonia school district's single building — will not be affected, according to Gary E. Phillips, the village administrator.
The repairs will be on Washington Street between Butcher Road and Walnut Street. That section of Washington Street will be closed during the repairs.
Phillips estimated that the repairs should take five to seven hours.
Residents will experience low water pressure and volume as well as water discoloration until the system is back in full operation.
Phillips said it isn't clear if the pipe is cracked or broken. He added that some of the lines in the village are old and brittle.
