MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees had a special meeting Friday to discuss behavior of some township safety force volunteers.

Trustees' attention was drawn to some residents' concerns after the Jan. 23 trustees meeting. Some said they had felt uncomfortable with actions of some volunteer firefighters in the parking lot of the township administration building.

William Miller, board chairman, said the special meeting was held to address the matter and noted there will be no punitive action taken. He said the situation has been addressed, after becoming blown out of proportion, "and hopefully it won't be a problem anymore."

Anyone who attends a township meeting should feel free to express their opinions without fear of retaliation, Miller said. "That's what this meeting was about."

Miller said trustees were first told residents were being intimidated. He said they were not — saying the word means that residents were frightened by threats, but none was made.

"This behavior, which amounts to simple schoolyard-variety bullying, will not stand under any circumstances," Miller said. "I want to emphasize that this meeting was about the bad behavior of a few individuals. Their behavior is not representative of the employees of Weathersfield Township."
