Police seize cocaine, cash from Warren man
WARREN City narcotics officers seized about $35,000 worth of crack cocaine and $3,600 cash from a Warren man awaiting sentencing on drug charges.
Lateen Phillips, 29, of Roe Court, has not been charged with any drug offenses as the result of the seizure but he was charged with failure to comply with a police officer's order.
Lt. Thomas Skoczylas, head of the narcotics division, said the case is under investigation.
Skoczylas said Friday that his unit's investigation led to a traffic stop Thursday night by Patrol Officer Wayne Mackey and his police dog, "Ziggo." Phillips led police on a high-speed chase and was captured on Austin Avenue.
Seized were 12 1/2 ounces of crack, cash, baggies and an expandable baton similar to those carried by police.
Skoczylas said Phillips recently pleaded guilty in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to drug charges and is waiting sentencing.
