State OKs YSU property purchases
COLUMBUS The state Controlling Board approved two more property purchases proposed by Youngstown State University for campus improvements.
The first, a 0.17-acre parcel located at 3576 Scott St., is owned by Ernest McCollum. It was valued at $10,500, according to an appraisal conducted by Anthony Thomas of Canfield, and is being sold to the university for $10,000.
The second, a 0.2-acre parcel identified as Lot 996 Grant Street, is owned by John J. Wallace and Patricia Tate, recent heirs to the estate of Sonnie Jackson and Annie Jackson, the previous owners, according to documents.
It was valued at $12,500, according to an appraisal conducted by Thomas, and is being sold to the university for $11,000.
Both vacant lots will be used for expansions of athletics facilities, according to documents.
In other business, the board approved the release of $23,000 for a boiler replacement project at Kent State University's East Liverpool campus.
The funds will cover the replacement of a concrete floor in a mechanical room in the main classroom building.
