GIRARD Car failure on a local highway almost turned into a nightmare of abduction and horror for a city woman.
Police are looking for two men suspected of trying to abduct the woman who was stranded on the 711 connector at midnight Thursday.
According to police reports, the car driven by the 22-year-old woman stopped on the southbound side of the freeway. She told officers the car has stopped before but would start after sitting for a short time.
The woman told police that two men in a green SUV eventually stopped to offer assistance. She walked back to their SUV to use a cell phone, but when the woman tried to use a cell phone offered to her by one of the men, she said they attempted to force her into the SUV.
The woman told officers she struggled with the two men, who ripped her shirt and struck her in the head during the struggle. The men then sped away.
The men are described as black males in their late 20s or early 30s.
Sgt. Nakia Hendrix of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said motorists are encouraged to prepare for possible breakdowns, taking the weather and other conditions into account.
"We would recommend carrying a cell phone and possibly a sign that says 'call for help' if you have one. If it is in the winter, we recommend carrying extra clothing and things of that nature," he said.
Hendrix said anyone stranded on the highway should be cautious about accepting help from motorists, and do not accept the offer of help if uneasy about the person.
