State Route 11 work
GIRARD State Route 11 in Girard, Vienna and Liberty will have lane restrictions each way from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Thursday. The lane restrictions will begin at the Interstate 80 intersection and end at Anderson-Morris Road overpass. The Ohio Department of Transportation will be resurfacing the road, and expects to be finished with the project by mid-September.
Bomb substances
YOUNGSTOWN Randy Telshaw, charged with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals or substances to manufacture explosive devices, was arraigned Monday in municipal court and bond was set at $20,000. Telshaw, 53, told Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly that he is staying with a relative on Blueberry Hill Drive in Canfield and no longer resides at 611 Ferndale Ave. On June 30, police emptied Telshaw's Ferndale house of explosives and bomb-making books and ingredients, including ammonium nitrate, as well as firearms and ammunition. Telshaw will be back in court Aug. 21 for a hearing. He has said he never intended to make a bomb or harm anyone.
YSU worker theft
YOUNGSTOWN A maintenance worker at Youngstown State University pleaded no contest Monday in municipal court to unauthorized use of a vehicle, and two counts of theft were dismissed. Dennis J. Miller, 44, of North Cross Street, Columbiana, was fined $100, placed on one year's probation and ordered to have no contact with YSU. He had been accused of three counts of felony theft in office for stealing gas and a power washer from the campus. Miller was placed on paid leave from YSU June 22 when the charges were filed and was expected to resign as a condition of the plea agreement. The thefts were recorded on surveillance videotape.
Case to grand jury
YOUNGSTOWN A Mahoning County grand jury will consider the aggravated arson case filed against Neil R. Patterson, 22, of Franklin Avenue and Robert R. Bennett Jr., 19, of East Myrtle Avenue. The case was bound over to a grand jury on Monday from municipal court. The two men are accused of setting three fires to vacant structures on Williamson Avenue in July.
Arson suspect
YOUNGSTOWN A municipal judge set bond Monday at $25,000 for William R. Rowe, 28, of Hunter Avenue on an aggravated arson charge. Rowe is accused of throwing a firebomb at a neighbor's house Friday evening. He will be back in court Aug. 18 for a preliminary hearing.
Italian festival set
WARREN Portions of several streets bordering Courthouse Square will be closed to motor vehicles from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 8 a.m. Monday for the Italian-American Heritage Festival, the city engineer's office has announced. West Market Street will be closed from Main Avenue to North Park Avenue. Main Avenue will be closed from West Market Street to High Street. High Street will be closed from Harmon Avenue to North Park Avenue. North Park Avenue will be open as usual, but with limited parking on the west side of the street. The festival begins at 5 p.m. Thursday and ends at 11 p.m. Sunday.
Socks sought
YOUNGSTOWN The Save Our Soles Ministry of St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church, 93 E. Myrtle Ave., is collecting donations of new white socks from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays at Homestead Park, 829 Dewey Ave. The socks will be distributed free Aug. 26.
