Mercer County Prison Board makes job recommendations

MERCER, Pa. — The Mercer County Prison Board recommended hiring one person and a temporary change in classification for another.

The board recommended that Patricia Woods, who was hired as jail records supervisor June 15, temporarily be placed in a higher job classification that would raise her wage from $23,589 annually to $26,409.

The board, at its meeting Monday, also recommended the temporary change while they are waiting for a study of the job for permanent reclassification, said District Attorney James Epstein, who is prison board president.

He said one of the reasons for the recommendation is that the board believes Woods' classification should be higher than the two people she supervises.

The board also recommended hiring Sharyn Nelson of Grove City as assistant record keeper at $23,589 annually.

Both personnel actions will now go the board of county commissioners for ratification.

The board also approved minutes for a special meeting it had July 13.

At that meeting, the board authorized the jail administrative staff to take "appropriate disciplinary action" against an employee for sexual harassment in violation of the county's personnel policy.

Epstein said the matter involved jail employees, not inmates.

He would not comment further about the nature of the violation or the employee who was disciplined. He said since no one was fired, it will remain a confidential administrative matter.
