City officials weighing new court budget
GIRARD Members of the State Fiscal Oversight Committee in place to oversee city spending are hoping for a fast decision by city officials on a recent funding order for the municipal court here.
Judge Michael Bernard, in a meeting with city council and city administration Monday, issued a second amended appropriation order for 2006 totaling $857,011. The judge had originally ordered $905,454, but an appeals court decision denied that order and suggested city and court officials meet and agree upon a reasonable amount to fund the court.
City officials cannot technically agree to spend any money without the consent of the commission.
The commission did agree to allow the city to appropriate $30,000 to the court to cover its next payroll while city officials review the judge's total funding order but said they would like a funding plan in place for the remainder of the year by Oct. 26.
The commission will have to sign off on additional court funding before court employees can be paid Oct. 27.
