Arts-heritage festival adds bicycle tour
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. Entertainment, art shows and food will be part of the New Wilmington Arts and Heritage Festival.
Events will begin Friday and run through Aug. 5.
New this year is a bicycle tour of the hills and valleys surrounding New Wilmington. The tour begins and ends at Wilmington Area High School and follows a 20-mile route at the rider's pace.
Registration is 9 a.m. Saturday and the tour starts at 10 a.m. at the high school on Wood Street. Cost to participate is $8.
All riders must sign waivers and wear helmets.
There will also be a children's area with plenty of opportunities for children to engage in creative play. Arts and crafts fill the children's area sponsored by The Wright Place Salon from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 5, including tie dye at 11:30 a.m. the first day and 1 p.m. on Aug. 5. Shirts may be purchased at the activity table, or bring your own from home.
There will be balloons and free face painting. Jocko the Clown will be there throughout the weekend, while temporary airbrushed tattoos will be given in front of Jill Jack Insurance. There will be a Kiwanis WOW Wheels! Parade on Saturday and a pet parade Aug. 5.
The festival is a joint effort by the New Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts and Westminster College.
