Boardman robbery
BOARDMAN A Tiffany South hotel employee was robbed at gunpoint by a man wearing a stocking cap over his face. An employee at the Hampton Inn told police that a man came into the hotel early Monday asking whether the hotel would rent a room to a customer with a dog. The man left but returned about 15 minutes later, pulled a black stocking cap over his face and pulled out a gun. He forced the employee at gunpoint to lead him through the back door to the desk area of the hotel, where he emptied the cash register of about $300. The gunman then ordered the employee to the floor, took a cordless phone the employee was using to call 911 and fled on foot. Two employees of Fairfield Inn, Tiffany South, told police that a man matching the gunman's description came into that hotel about 45 minutes earlier and asked about renting rooms to people with dogs.
Right back in jail

Thomas Pitts, 20, of Foundry Hill Road, Hanoverton, had been released after being charged with theft. A worker at Farmer Bill's, 13408 state Route 164, reported at 8 p.m. that she was robbed at gunpoint. The man took cash from the register and several packs of cigarettes, then drove away. Recount announced
LISBON A mandatory recount Monday did not change the defeat of two issues. Lois Gall, Columbiana County Board of Elections director, said a 2-mill police levy for St. Clair Township was defeated 1,553 to 1,532. The election night result was 1,549 to 1,532. A 2-mill road levy in West Township was also defeated by one vote as announced election night. The issue was defeated 534 to 533. Recounts are automatic when the difference is less than one-half of 1 percent.

The owner of 1704 Colt Court S.W. reported that she, her father and her boyfriend were in the kitchen when they heard multiple gunshots. Upon arriving at the scene, police found three bullet holes in the living room and two bullet holes in the front door. No one in the home saw the shooter or shooters, according to police reports.
Dogs on the loose
STRUTHERS Police shot a dog after it was reported running loose and then charged a worker from the Mahoning County Dog Warden's office. Two residents on Schenley Avenue called police early Sunday to report a pit bull and another dog running loose. The couple said that the dogs behaved aggressively toward them. When a representative of the dog warden's office arrived and tried to catch the dogs, the pit bull charged him. The dogs ran, but police found the pit bull in a backyard at Lowellville Road and Perry Street and shot it. Dog Warden Mike Fox said the second dog, described as a medium-sized, white curly-haired dog, ran off.
