YOUNGSTOWN — A cell phone found in the hand of 29-year-old Patrick M. Chrystal likely led to inattention and, combined with speed and no seat belt, resulted in his death in a one-car crash, said Detective Sgt. Patricia Garcar, an accident investigator.

The crash occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday on Mahoning Avenue at Evanston Avenue on the West Side. Garcar said Chrystal, of Lisbon, lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Blazer and slammed into two utility poles as he traveled west.

The impact sheared one pole and flipped the Blazer, which then landed on him, she said.

She said more investigation is needed to determine his speed, adding it was "significant."

Chrystal operated Patrick's Chop House at Lock 24 on state Route 154 in Elkton.
