Boardman police to increase traffic enforcement efforts
BOARDMAN Township police will increase their presence in school zone areas when school resumes Tuesday,
Sgt. John Allsopp, traffic unit supervisor, said the department will especially target Glenwood Avenue, near the high school. Because of many complaints and about 10 crashes per year, the traffic unit has identified the Glenwood Avenue area near the school as one of its key problem locations for 2006.
"We hope that by making the public aware of our increase enforcement efforts, this will increase voluntary compliance with traffic laws, thereby reducing the amount of traffic crashes on our roadways," Allsopp said in a news release. "We have been fortunate that none of the recent crashes near the high school have been too serious."
The posted speed limit in all designated school zone areas is 20 mph. The department generally sees an increase in traffic complaints during the school year with many involving young drivers on their way to and from school.
The posted times and school zone speed limits:
Market Street, Robinwood Lane, Stadium Drive and West Boulevard Elementary schools, 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. and 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.
St. Charles School, U.S. Route 224, 7:15 to 8:15 a.m., 10:50 to 11:10 a.m. and 1:45 to 2:35 p.m.
Glenwood Middle and Boardman High schools, both Glenwood, 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
Center Middle School, Market Street, 8 to 9 a.m. and 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
