Chief: Firefighters saved woman
WARREN — Fire Chief Ken Nussle is crediting four firefighters with saving the life of a 68-year-old woman, whom they removed from her burning home.
The owner of the home at 2810 Randolph St., Nancy Kusnir, remained in critical condition Tuesday in Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.
"These guys deserve recognition," Nussle said of Capt. Jeff Younkins and firefighters Shawn Teura, Brad Brewster and Marc Titus. "They saved her life."
Firefighters were called to the Kusnir home shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday and found Kusnir in bed in a back bedroom.
Nussle said Kusnir was unconscious when removed from the one-story house. The firefighters took turns giving her CPR and she was placed on a ventilator at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital before being flown to the Cleveland hospital.
He said the cause of the fire hasn't been determined but it started in the living room. He noted that Nusnir was a smoker and the fire started in the living room.
