Mother of player killed in bus wreck files suit

ATLANTA (AP) — The mother of an Ohio college baseball player killed in a March bus crash bus that also claimed six other lives has filed a lawsuit over the wreck.

Geneva Ann Williams, mother of 19-year-old Tyler Williams, is suing Bluffton University, the company that made the bus, the city of Atlanta and the company that provided the bus and drivers for Bluffton's team.

"My client wants to know what happened," said Doug Desjardins, with Washington D.C.-based Clapp, Desjardins & Ely, which specializes in bus and airplane crashes. The lawsuit, filed Sept. 20 in Fulton County Superior Court, seeks unspecified damages.

Desjardins said the university was being sued because it contracted with the bus company and his client has filed an administrative claim against the Georgia Department of Transportation. State procedures required her to file an administrative claim that has a six-month waiting period before a lawsuit may be filed against the state agency.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which reported on the lawsuit in Saturday's editions, said university officials would not comment Friday, and Atlanta officials could not be reached Friday afternoon.

The bus carrying the baseball team crashed the morning of March 2 after it went up a left-lane exit ramp that feeds onto a bridge over Interstate 75 in Atlanta.
