Fred Antonelli, 77

NEW CASTLE, PA. – Fred Antonelli, 77, of 520 E. Garfield Ave., died Saturday morning, Dec. 30, in the Overlook Nursing Home.

Mr. Antonelli was bon May 4, 1929 in Morgantown, W.Va., a son of the late Stefano and Fancesca Marcucci Antonelli.

His wife, the former Nancy DiCaprio, whom he married Oct. 22, 1955, died June 15, 1996.

Mr. Antonelli retired from the Republic Steel Corp of Youngstown and was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Mary Mother of Hope Parish.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include a daughter, Anita Antonelli; two sons, Anthony Antonelli and Albert Antonelli and wife Sue; a sister, Freda Perillo, all of New Castle; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Ed & Don DeCarbo Funeral Home and Crematory, 3000 Wilmington Road in New Castle.

A blessing service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Castle.

Miriam Berkowitz

BOARDMAN – There will be services at 2 p.m. today at the Ohev Tzedek Synagogue for Miriam Berkowitz, who died early Saturday morning.

Mrs. Berkowiz was born Aug. 24, 1918, to Lena and Herman Reese.

She worked as a secretary for many years for both Ohev Tzedek Synagogue and Rodef Sholom Temple.

Mrs. Berkowitz was a lifelong member of Ohev Tzedek, where she volunteered for many projects, from sisterhood events, to participating in the annual musicals, to teaching music in Sunday school, to coordinating confirmation services.

She is survived by her husband, Sidney; a son, Lee; daughter-in-law, Sandra; a daughter, Barbara Berkowitz-Stewart; a son-in-law, Robert Stewart; and grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel and Cara.

Calling hours will be today from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the synagogue.

Contributions can be made to the Ohev Tzedek Synagogue in her memory.

Arrangements are being handled by the Shriver-Allison-Courtley-Weller-King Funeral Home.


Betty J. Brodie, 81

NILES – Betty J. Brodie, 81, of 1758 Taft Ave., died at 7:06 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at her residence.

She was born March 15, 1925 in Kettanning, Pa., to Robert and Elizabeth (Barnhart) Crytzer.

She married John F. Brodie Aug. 31, 1946, and he died Jan. 2, 1985.

A graduate of Kettanning High School, she was a longtime member of the Niles First Presbyterian Church and its Women’s Circle. She especially enjoyed activities with her children and their families.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Wilson, with whom she lived; a son, John T. “Tom” (Shirley) Brodie of Leesburg, Fla.; four grandchildren, Tracy (Paul) Panic of Mineral Ridge, Jonathan Brodie of Mecca, Thomas Brodie of Niles, Michael (Tami) Edwards of Howland; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Myrna (Jack) Steffy of Kettanning; and a brother, Dale (Wilma) Barnhart of Worthington, Pa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother and a sister.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home.

There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Henry Pierce officiating.

Burial will be at Pineview Memorial Park.

Juliana L. (Graham) Campbell, 61

HUBBARD – Juliana L. (Graham) Campbell, 61, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27.

Mrs. Campbell leaves to cherish her memory her husband, William K.; two sons, William J. and Kevin U. Campbell; a daughter, Terri L. Tuck; two sisters, Helen Brassfield and Asari Graham, all of Hubbard; four grandchildren; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Annie Graham.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McGuffey Road Church of Christ where friends may call one hour prior to the services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Howard-Rhoden Memorial Home.

Evelyn I. Cook, 83

NORTH PALM BEACH, FLA. – Evelyn I. Cook, 83, passed away peacefully at her son’s residence, under Hospice care, Tuesday evening, Dec. 26.

Mrs. Cook was born in Hubbard, a daughter of the late Homer Corll and Bertha Thomas Corll, and resided in Greenford before moving to the Palm Beaches in 2001.

She was a life member of the Greenford Christian Church and the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Juno Isles, Fla., where she was involved in various church activities. She also enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by her devoted son, Allan W. Cook of Lake Park, Fla.; her adopted son, Kevin R. Gay of Lake Park; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen S. Cook of Canfield; two grandchildren, Brenda L. Cook and Donald W. Cook; a brother, David Corll of New Springfield; and extended family members in Ohio, Florida and the Carolinas.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Lowell G. Cook, who died in 1999; a son, Larry L. Cook in 1999; a grandson, David A. Cook in 2000; and three siblings, Leonard, Eileen and Freida.

Private arrangements are by the Howard-Price Funeral Home, North Palm Beach.

Ann Kapusta

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Ann Kapusta passed away Thursday, Dec. 28.

She was retired from employment with the State of Ohio. She moved to Corpus Christi in 1991 with her sister, Ruth.

Ann was a devoted Catholic.

She is survived by her brother, John (Angeline) Kapusta and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary Kapusta; her sisters, Sister M. Ottilia and Ruth Kapusta; and brothers, Joseph, Louis and George Kapusta.

The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a Catholic parish of donor’s choice.

Frank W. Lysowski, 93

YOUNGSTOWN – Frank W. Lysowski, 93, passed away Thursday evening at his residence with his children at his side following a brief illness.

Mr. Lysowski was born April 7, 1913 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph and Sophia Szulakiewicz Lysowski.

He was a lifelong member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, where he attended grade school and was married.

He was a meat cutter for the Wasacy Market on South Avenue and later was co-owner of the Gibson Market until he went to work as a meat cutter for Fisher Foods in Cleveland. He helped open all of the Fisher Foods and Fisher Fazio Markets in the Youngstown, Boardman and Niles areas and retired after 17 years of service with Fisher Fazio.

He enjoyed working as a bartender at social events at Krakusy Hall. He was a co-owner of the the Army Navy club on the East Side for a short time.

Frank was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 880, an associate member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post No. 87, a member of the Free Polish Krakusy Society Group 87, and a member of the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild. His lifelong hobbies included tending his garden, doing yard work, and repairing automobiles and lawn mowers. He had a passion for cooking and loved to share his recipes.

His wife, the former Ann Myhal, whom he married July 4, 1938, died Feb. 3, 1991.

He is survived by two sons, Ronald at home, and Thomas of Euclid; a daughter, Carol (Robert) Mazur of Poland; and two grandsons, Robert Mazur Jr. and Stephen Mazur.

Besides his wife, Frank was preceded in death by two brothers, Thaddeus and Henry; and two sisters, Elizabeth Stawiarski and Jane, who died as an infant.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home, 2403 South Ave., and at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church.

Friends my call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m and 7 to 9 p.m. The Infant Jesus of Prague Guild will hold a prayer service at 1:45 p.m.

Viola Pizzoferrato

POLAND – Viola Pizzoferrato went home to be with our Lord and her beloved daughter, Gerri, on Saturday, Dec. 30.

She was born in Youngstown to the late Nicholas and Neva Dionisio.

In her lifetime, she was a member of St. Luke Church and the Women’s Christian Group and was a top sales person in the fine jewelry department at Kaufmann’s.

Her pies were top notch, her cooking was the best and her recipes will live on. When thinking of what a grandmother is, she is the perfect example.

We are so grateful to have known her and are thankful for the fond memories that will always bring a smile to our faces.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of 66 years, Michael; her daughter, Jean Pizzoferrato; her son, Guy Pizzoferrato; her two grandchildren, Lisa Boggs and Michael Buttrey; her great-grandson, Brady Boggs; and her sister, Florence DelGenio; and wonderful nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gerri Buttrey; brothers, Albert and James Dionisio; and her sisters, Pauline DiBacco, Rose DiTommaso, Mary Leone, Alice Pizzoferrato and Julia Rudy.

Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Fabrizio Funeral Home.

Genevieve R. Platt, 76

AVON LAKE – Genevieve R. Platt (Rozum), 76, formerly of Youngstown, passed away, Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at her home following complications of breast cancer.

Mrs. Platt was born Aug. 29, 1930 in Youngstown, and had lived in Avon Lake the past 26 years.

Mrs. Platt was the owner of Designs by Genevieve, a flower design company that she operated for many years. Besides running the business, Mrs. Platt would also teach flower design classes at the Avon Lake Public Library and various area garden clubs.

She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Avon Lake, where she would put her design talents to work by helping decorate the church for holidays. She was a member of Dr. Diaz’s American Cancer Society Elyria Relay for Life Team. She was an integral part of fundraising as a member of the Friends of the Westside Catholic Center and was a member of the Youngstown Garden Club.

Mrs. Platt is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard D.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Samuel (Wayne) of Parma; four sons, Michael Platt (Tina) of Marysville, Christopher Platt (Margaret) of Indianapolis, Vincent Platt of Avon Lake and Stephen Platt of North Olmsted. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Bethany, Nicholas, Bobby, Thomas, Sarah and Mary Kate; brother John Rozum of Logan, Utah, and Rosemary Kotch of Sun City West, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary (Andrejcak) Rozum.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Road in Avon Lake on Tuesday, Jan. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m.

A memorial service will be Wednesday in St. Joseph Church, 32929 Lake Road in Avon Lake at 10 a.m. Fr. Timothy O’Connor of the Church will officiate.

Interment is private.

Muriel Kimberly Roberts, 91

CINCINNATI – Muriel Kimberly Roberts, 91, of 2703 Silverleaf Ave, formerly of Youngstown, died Dec. 6, 2006.

Mrs. Roberts was born Feb. 20, 1915 in Youngstown, a daughter of James T. and Charlotte Kimberly.

She was an accomplished pianist and organist, playing for various churches in Youngstown and Akron for many years. In the late 1930s, she had a piano radio show, entitled “Study in Black and White” with WKBN and WFMJ radio stations.

During the period of the Great Band Era, she was invited to play with such bands as Harry James, Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller, and for many years, she was the pianist for the Gwynne Jenkins’ Chorus.

She graduated from South High School in 1933 and was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

She married Thompson C. Roberts, Jr., Sept. 29, 1940.

She leaves a daughter, Lynn Roberts of Cincinnati; a son-in-law, the very Rev. Kenneth Richards of San Joaquin Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Ward of San Diego; Kathryn Archambault of Valencia, Calif., Jennifer Daley of Byron, Minn., David Richards of Prineville, Ore., Sarah Cork of Cincinnati; four great-grandchildren, Ashton and Parker Ward both of San Diego; Hudson Daley of Byron and Nicholas Archambault of Valencia.

Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Tut; her daughter, Diane Richards; sister, Jean Flock and brother, Roger Kimberly.

A memorial service will be held at later date. She will be buried beside her husband of 63 years at the Lake Park Cemetery.

Audrie L. Thompson, 82

POLAND – Audrie L. Thompson, 82, died Friday afternoon at Omni Manor.

She was born Jan. 15, 1924 in New Castle, Pa., a daughter of Edmund F. and Helen Rae Fox.

Mrs. Thompson was a 1941 graduate of New Castle High School. She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle.

Her husband, John F. Thompson, whom she married June 20, 1942, died June 19, 1998.

She is survived by a daughter, Jeanne T. (Henry) Rostan of Youngstown; a son, Don Rae (Carolyn) Thompson of Poland; a brother, Donald H. (Mary Lou) Fox of Dayton; three grandchildren, J. Michael Thompson of Poland, Jessica R. Thompson of Mendocino, Calif. and Benjamin E. (Heather) Rostan of Poland.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas W. Thompson; and a sister, Shirley Fox Palmer.

Family and Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, where services will be held at 1 p.m.

Interment will follow in Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Vincent J. Toro, 85

HOWLAND – There will be funeral services Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church with Fr. Donald E. King officiating for Vincent J. Toro, 85, who passed away Friday morning from cardiopulmonary failure at Autumn Hills.

Vincent J. Toro was born Oct. 8, 1921 in Warren, the son of Alfonso and Flora Yannucci Toro Sr.

He was a 1940 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and attended Youngstown State University and the Dana School of Music. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, serving as an instructor in the Medical Corp. at Ft. Sam Houston, and was a member of the U.S. Army Dance Band during his service.

Mr. Toro retired after 41 years from the Copperweld Steel Corp., where he was the assistant superintendent of shipping; he was previously the director of personnel. He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church where he was an usher and greeter.

He was very active in the Greater Western Reserve Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he was an instructor of first aid and CPR. He had been a co-director of the annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament for the Boy Scouts and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Trumbull Country Club. He had belonged to the American Federation of Musicians, was an accomplished musician and piano player and had played in various local dance bands. He also enjoyed traveling and fishing.

His wife, the former Grace G. Orlando, whom he married Feb. 13, 1943, preceded him in death July 15, 1994.

Survivors include two sisters, Irene Goff of Howland and Mary Louise (Dr. Carl Kent) Brandeberry of Ashtabula; a brother, Alfred J. (Joan) Toro of Howland; his special friend, Antoinette “Toni” Curcio of Warren; two sisters-in-law, Flora Natale and Helen George, both of Warren; and several nieces and nephews.

Beside his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alfonso Toro Jr.; and a sister, Gloria Barnes.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the chapel.

Entombment will be at Crown Hill Burial Park.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church Building Fund, 3020 Reeves Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.

Edward J. Wrobleski, 86

“Together in Heaven Forever”

BERLIN CENTER – Edward J. Wrobleski, 86, of 14265 Berlin Station Road, passed away late Christmas morning at Horizon Village in Warren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ed was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Youngstown, a son of the late Martin and Tillie Sophie Zaluda Wrobleski, and moved to Berlin Center about 30 years ago.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and received two Purple Hearts.

Mr. Wrobleski worked for General Fireproofing for 38 years, retiring from the pressroom in September 1982. He was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church.

He enjoyed gardening and his 30 years of country living.

He leaves a son, Martin (Cheri) Wrobleski of Niles; two daughters, Barbara Kolcun of Youngstown and Joan (James) Pope of Berlin Center; a sister, Josephine Moderelli of Youngstown; six grandchildren, Ryan, Jamie, Kim, Kelli, Marisa, and David; and three great-grandchildren, Corey, Derek, and Dreauna.

His wife, Mary Ann Chenosky Wrobleski, whom he was married for almost 60 years, died Jan. 11, 2006. A brother, Raymond Wrobleski; and a sister Mary Wrobleski are also deceased.

A memorial service will take place Friday, Jan. 5, at 10:30 a.m. at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
