William F. Briguglio, 83
AUSTINTOWN William F. Briguglio, 83, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, at his home.
He was born Oct. 11, 1923 in Connellsville, Pa., a son of the late William S. and Lillian Broom Briguglio.
A graduate of Monessen High School, William served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in the 86th Infantry Division in the European and Pacific Theatres. He was owner of Campus Book and Supply and previously had owned Clary Business Machines.
William was a member of the Youngstown Board of Education, Youngstown Education Committee, was the 1971 Yohioan of the Year, served as Personnel Chairman of YETC and was a former President of Unita.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marilyn Meredith McQuillan, whom he married Oct. 11, 1995; four children, William (Doris) Briguglio Jr. of Sunrise, Fla., Kathleen (Bernie) Profato of Niles, Randall (Priscilla) Briguglio of Canfield and Elene (Bob) Gusch of Albuquerque, N.M.; three stepchildren, Renee Peterson of Poland and Charles McQuillan and Lynnette (Pat) DeChellis, both of Youngstown; four stepsisters, Stella Dikun of Liberty, Barbara Brown of Girard, Katherine Lucarelli of Niles and Carmel Lucarelli of Girard; a half brother, Frank; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Beside his parents, William was preceded in death by a son, Gary Briguglio, and two sisters, Pauline Centner and Louise Nichols.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Carmel V. Chickillo, 92
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lucy Church in Scranton, Pa., for Carmel V. Chickillo, 92, formerly of Scranton, who passed away Tuesday afternoon at Alterra Sterling House.
Carmel was born March 21, 1914 in Youngstown, the daughter of the late John and Adeline (Serafini) Roberts.
She relocated to Philadelphia, after marrying her husband Joseph in 1956. After retirement, they moved to Scranton. She had worked at McCrorys in Youngstown then at Tasty Baking in Philadelphia as accounts receivable supervisor.
She was a member of St. Lucy Church in Scranton and was a past president of Casa Savoia Club in Youngstown.
Her husband, Joseph Chickillo, whom she married Sept. 25, 1956, passed away November of 1990.
She is survived by a brother, Ralph (Angeline) Roberts and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Roberts.

Burial will be at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton.

Paul Marcus Patmon Davis, 42
GIRARD There will be services at 11 a.m. Friday, at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Paul Marcus Patmon Davis, 42, who left his earthly home and entered his heavenly home Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006 at his home.
Mr. Davis was born Sept. 26, 1964 Youngstown, a son of James and Vivian Patmon Davis.
A 1983 graduate of Girard High School, he was employed as a manager at M I P Manufacturing Company. He enjoyed sporting events, was an avid music lover and played the guitar. His love for fireworks far exceeded all his other hobbies and interest. His loving and captivating smile will always be remembered by his family and friends.
Left to continuously love him are his parents; a brother, Jeffrey (Angie) Davis, and his nephew, Miles Davis; grandmother, Pauline Patmon of Youngstown; his aunts who helped to raise him, Charlene Patmon, Elaine Patmon and Rev. Sylvia Jennings, all of Youngstown, and Connie (Eddie Lee) Moore of Warren; three stepbrothers, Bill, James Jr. and Phillip; two stepsisters, Irene and Josephine; a special friend, Helen Hancock of Girard; and a host of other family and friends.
Three aunts, Gloria Smith, Alice Berry, and Iris Vonnie Patmon; and a first cousin, Alexis Marcy Berry Jones all preceded him in death.

Stephanie D. Edsall, 83
YOUNGSTOWN Stephanie D. Edsall, 83, died Monday evening at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1923 in Pennsylvania, a daughter of Stephen and Martha Reskovic Zubovich, and lived most of her life in this area.
Mrs. Edsall was a homemaker and formerly worked for Republic Hose. She was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during WWII, and loved animals.
Her husband, Leonard L. Edsall, whom she married April 15, 1952, died Feb. 12, 1979.
She leaves her daughter, Yvonne A. Dressel of New Middletown.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Michael Zubovich; and three sisters, Jennie Puljack, Dorothy Ahmit and Mary Zubovich.

Carolyn J. (Gano) Finnie
WEST GOSHEN, PA. Carolyn J. (Gano) Finnie, formerly of Westlake and Salinville, passed away Dec. 29. She had resided for the last 31 years in West Goshen.
She was born June 5, 1934 in Shreve, the daughter of the late J. Gordon Gano and Helen Morris.
She was educated at Columbiana High School and Atlanta Christian College.
She worked as the office manager of Preferred Insurance Associates Inc. in West Goshen for 22 years.
She was an avid reader of Christian fiction. She loved traveling with her husband to places like Hawaii, Israel, Canada, Spain, Germany, Austria, North Africa and Bermuda. She spent many years assisting her husband with his education and pastoral work. She loved to sing in the church choir or even just around the house. More than anything, she loved to spend time with her family and spread the Good News. She lived her faith and put Christ first in all she did.
She leaves her husband of 54 years, Gerald C. Finnie; children, J. Richard Finnie and wife Karen Leigh of Exton, Pa., Patricia K. Bowers and husband William T. of Chadds Ford, Pa., Darla J. Taylor and husband Steve W. of Lancaster, Pa., and Jayne A. Thompson and husband Alan of West Chester, Pa.; grandchildren, Jason, Lydia, Daniel, Sarah, Jared, David, Brad, Kelly and Audrey; sister, Betty Segesman of Columbiana; and brothers, Richard E. Gano of Salem and James G. Gano of Lisbon.
There will be a service celebrating her life at 11 a.m. today at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, state Route 202 and Pleasant Grove Road, Westtown.
Burial will be at Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery in West Chester.

Ernest Greenwood Hamilton, 80
POLAND There will be services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Fox Funeral Home, 4700 Market St., Boardman, for Ernest G. Hamilton, 80, who passed away Tuesday at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Ernest was born July 10, 1926 in Wilmington, Del., a son of Walter and Ruth (Barlow) Hamilton.
He was a gun collector and a member of the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church, Argus Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rites Valley of Youngstown.
He served in the United States Coast Guard during WWII from July 8, 1944 to May 10, 1946. He was a former General Motors employee and retired from the Lordstown Plant in July of 1991.
He is survived by his five children, Roger (Carol) Mazon of Streetsboro, Lawrence (Noreen) Mazon of Poland, Charles P. (Geri) Donahue of Smyrna, Del., Barbara A. (Casimir) Alkanowski of Marshallton, Del., and Janice M. Donahue of New Castle, Del.
He also raised a niece, Kathy (George) Bohecker, and three nephews, Steven Slanina (deceased), Michael (Chrissy) Slanina of Boardman and Dennis Randall of Youngstown. He has two sisters, Eleanor (Kenneth) Smith of Elmer, N.J. and Beatrice (Walter) Lee of Wilmington; a brother, Paul (Carol) Hamilton of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Jane (Randall) Hamilton, whom he married March 23, 1963, and who died July 24, 1991; four brothers, Walter, Francis, Arthur and Charles; and a sister, Ruth Smallwood.

Naomi Parr Herchenroether, 87
UPPER ST. CLAIR Naomi Parr Herchenroether, 87, of Upper St. Clair and Chautauqua, N.Y., formerly of Poland, passed away Jan. 1.
A Westminster College graduate, Naomi taught English at Liberty High School prior to her retirement in 1981. Locally, she was active in numerous churches, including the Poland United Methodist and the Paradise United Church of Christ. In Upper St. Clair, she was affiliated with the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
As a member of the South Hills College Club, Naomi enjoyed the bridge club and regularly gave book reviews and talks on antiques. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and also served in various organizational capacities as an eight-year resident of Friendship Village Retirement Community in Upper St. Clair.
She was previously married to Dr. Norman M. Parr who died in 1980.
She leaves her husband of 24 years, George H. Herchenroether; her son and daughter-in-law, Timothy B. and Debra A. Parr of Poland; a brother, Robert Rosenberger; a stepson, George of Newport, R.I.; a stepdaughter, Jane of Philadelphia; her beloved grandchildren, Graham M. Parr of Poland and Kedron B. Parr of Lake Norman, N.C.; and stepgrandchildren, James Kahan and Lisa Kahan.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friday at Friendship Village.
Interment will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at Poland Riverside Cemetery.

BOARDMAN There will be services at 10 a.m. Friday at the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home, 75 E. Midlothian Blvd., for Harriet M. King, 90, of 342 Afton Ave., who died Tuesday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 15, 1916 in Warren, the daughter of Harry S. and Bertha Musson McKibben, coming to the area in 1946.
A 1932 graduate of Warren G, Harding High School, Harriet was a secretary at Hillman Christian Church, retiring in 1981.
She was a member of the Poland Christian Church where she was very active.
Her husband, Warren A. King, whom she married Dec. 23, 1938, died April 21, 2003.
She is survived by six sons, Dennis W. King of Spencerville, Ind., Charles Norman King of Dayton, David F. King of Pittsburgh, Randall Doubet King of Chicago, Philip R. King of Pittsburgh and Eugene W. King of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Alice Collier, Grace Sallaz and Hazel Luscombe; and four brothers, George S., Hubert A., Joseph H. and Charles S. McKibben.

Frederick B. Leach, 82
AVON Frederick B. Leach, 82, formerly of Youngstown and Sheffield Lake, passed away, Friday, Dec. 29, at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain following a short illness.
Mr. Leach was born Aug. 27, 1924 in Youngstown and had lived in Avon the past 39 years.
He was a graduate of Chaney High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and then attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. He was a well known Cleveland area artist. He was a member of the Ohio Water Color Association and the American Water Color Association, where he was a member of the Dolphin Fellowship, an elite group of artists.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joann M. (Shively); three sons, David Leach (Jerelynz) of Avon Lake, Frederick Leach (Becky) of Rocky River and Joseph Leach of Medina; a daughter, Janet Palka (Robert) of North Ridgeville; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and a sister, Grace Williams of Youngstown.

M. Jane Malarick, 80
STRUTHERS M. Jane Malarick, 80, of Spring Street, died Wednesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center after a two-month battle with cancer.
Jane was born April 18, 1926 in Struthers, a daughter of Benjamin and Mary Agnes Rouan Simkins and was a lifelong Struthers resident.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, where she was assistant secretary for a number of years. She was also a member of its Altar and Rosary Society, Infant Jesus of Prague and volunteered for Monday morning cleaning of the church and in the kitchen for bingo.
An avid card player, Jane was a member of the Saturday Card Club for many years, and recently the Thursday Card Club.
Her husband Robert Francis Moon Malarick, whom she married June 18, 1953, died Jan. 4, 1991.
She leaves two sons, James R. (Shirley) Malarick of Youngstown and Timothy E. Malarick of Westerville; two sisters, Agnes Crossen and Sally Grapevine, both of Struthers; a brother, Raymond Simkins of Canfield; and four grandchildren, Robert Malarick of Dublin, Patrick Malarick of Westerville, Stephanie Krohn of Salem and Kevin Malarick of Struthers.
Besides her parents and husband, Jane was preceded in death by a son, William J. Malarick; two sisters, Mary Caddick and Loretta Niggel; and three brothers, Benjamin, John and Robert Simkins.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church where the Altar and Rosary Society will conduct a candle light vigil.

BOARDMAN Private services were held Tuesday at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home for John Markovich, 80, who died Monday evening.
Mr. Markovich was born Jan. 14, 1926 in Youngstown, a son of James and Barbara Drovedelich Markovich.
He had been employed as a checker in the Blooming Mill at Youngstown Sheet & Tube. John was a member of the Greenford Christian Church.
He is survived by two daughters Paula Lombardi of Carlsbad, Calif., and Maribeth Bieber of North Lima; four grandchildren Kimberly Centilli, Laurie Frapwell, Heather Ann Bieber and Jason Bieber; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Joseph.

BOARDMAN Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel, and at 10 a.m. at St. Christine Church for Elaine Morton, 78 formerly of Lockwood Boulevard and Westlake, who passed away Monday evening at Boardman Community Care Center.
Elaine was born Nov. 23, 1928 in Youngstown, the daughter of Walter D. and Alice Cregan Mahoney.
After graduating from Ursuline High School, Elaine had worked at Truscon Steel and later was the owner/operator of the Favorite Hostess Shop in the Boardman Plaza from 1951 to 1989. During that time, she had also worked as an independent sales representative for the M.W. Carr company for more than 20 years. She had also worked and retired from CVS Drug stores in Cleveland.
She was a member of St. Christine Church and its choir, former member of St. Latislas Church in Westlake and a member of Quota Club and the Ursuline High School Alumni.
Her husband, John Clair Morton, whom she married April 30, 1955, died Dec. 30, 1999.
She is survived by three sisters, Mary and her husband Francis Hurley, Catherine Guerriero and Jane Mahoney, all of Boardman; a sister-in-law, Elaine Mahoney of Lyndhurst; five nieces; and 11 nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and James A. Mahoney.

YOUNGSTOWN - Margaret R. Pallai, 73, of Tyrell Avenue, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006 at Park Vista after a two-year illness.
Margaret was born June 23, 1933 in Youngstown, was a graduate of Ursuline High School and was a lifelong area resident.
She worked for Hynes Steel for several years and was a member of Our Lady of Hungary Church.

LIBERTY TOWNSHIP Erna Sattler of Warner Road passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2, at her home.
Erna was born Nov. 17, 1928 in Straubing, Germany, daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Kandler.
Erna leaves her husband at home, Robert Sattler, whom she married in 1960; two sons, Erich and (Anita) Kandler of Straubing and Robert Jr. and (Michele) Sattler of Lakeland, Fla.; three grandchildren, Abigail, Benjamin and Michael Sattler; a brother, Joseph Kandler of Germany; and four sisters, Margaret Todorovich, Isabella Weber, Paula Raml and Marille Bachuber, all of Germany
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Franziska Freunauer.

Zenovia Tunanidas, 84
Together Again
POLAND Services will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave. in Boardman, for Zenovia Tunanidas, 84, who died at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Jan. 2, 2007, after a long illness following complications from a spinal cord injury occurring in 2003.
Zenovia was born on Nov. 6, 1922 in Campbell, Ohio, the second of five children of Emmanuel and Amelia (Sevastou) Balale.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Peter Tunanidas, whom she married on Jan. 26, 1947 and died on Dec. 9, 2000.
Mrs. Tunanidas, was a graduate of Youngstown State University, and was a Reading/LD teacher with the Youngstown City Schools for more than 15 years. Her teaching career began at St. Edwards Elementary School in 1972. She was loved by her students who called her Mrs. T.
Zenovia was an active member of the Parents of the Deaf Study Club, and the Daughters of Penelope, Methone Chapter 89. She was also a member of the Asia Minor Society, St. John and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Senior Citizens Groups. She was a member of the State Teachers Retirement System, the Mahoning County Retired Teachers Association, and the Mahoning County Reading Teachers Association. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and its Ladies Philoptochos Society and taught Sunday School for several years. Zenovia was also a member of St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church and Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church.
In 2002, she was named Mother of the Year by St. Johns Ladies Philoptochos Society for her efforts in raising a successful deaf child.
Mrs. Tunanidas was a devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren. She loved reading stories to them and was a great homemaker. She was known for her warm smile and wit.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Dr. Amelia Tunanidas-Pantelis of Clearwater, Fla. and Miss Irene Tunanidas with whom she made her home, and an adopted son, Phillip Tunanidas of Youngstown; a grandson, George (Dr. Katie) Neuendorf and two granddaughters, Stephanie and Cynthia Neuendorf. She leaves a brother, John (Kathy) Balale in Campbell and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved godchildren, Atty. Christina Matthews of Columbus, Michael Balale of Torrance, Calif. and Barbara Tunanidis Bundy of Terrell, N.C.
Besides her husband, George and her parents, Zenovia was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Balale; and twin sisters, Antoinette and Mary.
Calling hours will be held on today, Jan. 4, 2007, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Youngstown, Ohio, where a 7 p.m. Trisagion Service will be held.
She will also lay in state on Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, from 10:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Johns Greek Orthodox Church.

Carmella Wilkins, 62
COLUMBUS There will be services at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church for Carmella Wilkins, 62, formerly of Youngstown, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at her home.
She was born March 5, 1944 in Youngstown, a daughter of Howard and Earleen Rooks Wilkins, moving to Columbus five months ago.
Mrs. Wilkins was a 1962 graduate of Chaney High School and attended Cleveland State University. She was employed for more than 20 years with General Motors Lordstown, retiring in December of 1995.
She was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and U A W Local No. 1117. She enjoyed shopping, crossword puzzles and traveling, especially to the Pocono Mountains. She loved being with family and friends and spending precious moments with her grandchildren.
Her husband, Tommie Lee Patterson, passed away in 2001.
She leaves to cherish her memory her father of Youngstown; three children, LaVerne (Leon) Butler, Evelyn Wilkins and Eric Winston, both of Youngstown; three sisters, Grace (Matthew) Henry, Rosalie Wilkins and Hattie W. Wilkins, all of Youngstown; three brothers, Howard (Mona) Wilkins of Corona, Calif., Rev. George (Shirley) Wilkins of Youngstown and Jerry Williams; 10 grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Her mother, Earleen Wilkins; a daughter, Makeba Wilkins, and her son, LeVon Hayes; three brothers, John Wilkins, William Wilkins and Lamar Williams; and a great granddaughter, DeVenva A. Patterson, all preceded her in death.

CANFIELD Judith M. (Lowe) Pershing Yates, 67, died at 5:15 a.m. Sunday at her residence.
Mrs. Yates had also resided in Mecca, Canfield and Salem prior to moving to Canfield.
She was born Sept. 6, 1939 in Berea, the daughter of James E. and Mary L. (Szasz) Lowe.
She had been in home care retail sales for 20 years and retail sales for 30 years.
She was Protestant by faith.
She is survived by three sons, Mark Pershing of Boise, Idaho, Douglas Pershing of Crozet, Va. and Darren Pershing of Canfield; a daughter, Tracy Pershing of Boise; a brother, Thomas Lowe of Warren; and John Howell, her longtime companion of Kensington.

Eleanor Zulick, 79
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, Jan. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Cathedral for Eleanor Zulick, 79, who died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Park Vista Retirement Community.
Eleanor was born June 14, 1927 in Youngstown, the daughter of Joseph and Erma Daubnar Zulick.
She graduated from The Rayen School in 1944, and also from the University of Pittsburgh, Youngstown College, and Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland.
Eleanor was employed by the Visiting Nursing Association and retired from Woodside Receiving Hospital. She was a member of St. Columba and St. Edward Church.
She is survived by a sister, Stella Zulick of Liberty; a nephew, Richard Ellis of Youngstown; two great-nieces, Cindy and Mindy Ellis of Youngstown; a great-nephew, Trent Hayes of Canton; and cousins, Lorna Larson of Louisville, Ky., Jim Smolko of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. and John and Charles Daubnar of Youngstown.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Ellis.
Family and friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McVean, Hughes and McClurkin Funeral Home.
Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
