Adeline Lolly Santine Galanses, 87
BOARDMAN There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Church for Adeline Lolly Santine Galanses, 87, who died Wednesday evening at her residence.
Lolly was born Dec. 30, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Antoinette Fabrizio Santine.
She was a 1938 graduate of The Rayen School and a member of the church. She was a caring, loving person with many talents and a consummate homemaker and cook. Nana was a woman of simple pleasures, enjoying the company of four generations of family the most.
The heavens above now have the pleasure of a true angel. Please look after her and take care of her. The world has lost a remarkable woman.
She will be sadly and deeply missed by all her family and friends and yet forever loved.
She is survived by a son, John of Costa Rica; a daughter, Carol A. (Dennis) Gomez, with whom she made her home; two grandchildren, Laurie (Bob) Henes of Cary, N.C., and John (Debbie) Gomez of Canfield; four great-grandchildren, Elly and Jordan Henes and Mary and John Gomez; two sisters, Lucy (Peter) Suszczynski of Struthers and Ann (James) Bokone of Howland; a sister-in-law, Betty Santine of Hubbard; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Galanses, whom she married June 22, 1944 and died May 4, 1959; and two brothers, James Santine and Benjamin J. Santine.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. today and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Schiavone Funeral Home.
Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Mary Garczewski, 78
WARREN Mary Garczewski, 78, of 369 Wainwood Dr. S.E., entered peacefully into rest at 7:45 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 in the Gillette Nursing Home in Warren following a brief illness.
Mary was born June 9, 1928 in Campbell, the loving daughter of John and Mary (Deley) Michalsky. She had resided in Warren since 1965 and was formerly of Youngstown.
She was employed for many years as a secretary with the McKay Machine Co. in Youngstown, was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Warren and was a graduate of Wilson High School in Youngstown.
She entered into marriage with Joseph B. Garczewski June 20, 1962, and he entered into rest June 3, 2000.
Cherished memories will be carried on by her sons, William P. Garczewski of Warren, and Ronald J. Garczewski of Akron; her sister, Mildred Pavilons of Washington, D.C.; and one grandchild.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2007 at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3020 Reeves Road in Warren. Officiating will be Rev. Donald E. King, celebrant, and Rev. George P. Popovich, co-celebrant.
There will be no calling hours and entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum in Youngstown.

Larry Eugene Hune, 79
POLAND Larry Eugene Hune, 79, of Oak Drive, died early Friday morning at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Larry was born April 19, 1927 in Marietta, a son of William M. and Grace B. Brown Hune. He was raised in Marietta and came to Poland from Canton in 1967.
After graduating from Marietta High School in 1945, Mr. Hune enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Returning to Marietta in 1946, he attended Marietta College where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology.
For two years, he worked at the Seismograph Co. in North Dakota, Colorado and Virginia. In 1952 he left Seismograph Co. for the Shell Oil Co., and in 1956 he worked in Industrial Sales for the East Ohio Gas Co, retiring in 1987 after 30 years.
Mr. Hune was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church, and a 50-year member of Marietta Masonic Lodge F&AM No. 1, and belonged to various golf leagues.
He is survived by his wife, the former Emilie LaBarre, whom he married Oct. 18, 1952; three daughters, Mary Grace (Marc) Zolnier of Williamsburg, Va., Elizabeth (Roger) Kalter of Marietta, and Carol Ann (Charles) Serenko of New Middletown; and four grandchildren, Catherine and Carolyn Serenko, Megan Zolnier and Robert Hune-Kalter.
Besides his parents, Mr. Hune was preceded in death by two sisters, Erma Baumgard and Wanda Cranston; and one brother, Arthur Hune.
There are no services or calling hours. Mr. Hune will be interred at a later date at Mound Cemetery in Marietta.

George C. Jones, 82
CANFIELD - Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel for George C. Jones, 82, who passed away Friday evening at Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home in Boardman.
George was born Oct. 10, 1924 in Adrian, Mich., the son of Francis and Crystal Goodwin Jones.
A U.S. Navy veteran, George was retired as a truck driver for the Union Oil Co. He was a member of the Old North Church of Canfield and was a former member of the Kiwanis.
Besides his wife, the former Alice Coffey, whom he married Jan. 8, 1944, George leaves a daughter, Lynn Wilhelm of Canfield; a brother, Jack and wife Donna Jones of Boardman; and a sister, Florence Barnett of Canfield. He also leaves three grandchildren, Brian Jones, Theresa Cocca and Erica Wilhelm; as well as three great-grandchildren, Riley Jones, Nicolo and Santino Cocca.
George was preceded in death by his son, Robert Jones; and a half brother, Ellsworth Jones.

Caird Gilbert Kidston, 89
KIHEI, MAUI, HAWAII Caird Gilbert Kidston, 89, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Dec. 19, at his residence.
Caird was born Jan. 21, 1917 in Youngstown.
He graduated from South High School in 1935 and worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube during WWII.
He married the late Thelma Patterson in 1942 and they were members of the Cavalry Baptist Church. They moved to Denver in 1946. Mr. Kidston was the general manager of a floor covering and interior design company from 1947 until his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Kidston enjoyed arts and crafts, model ship building, and studying the history of Hawaii.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Gaw of Denver; his son, David (Kathy) of Tempe, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and his aunt, Marjorie Kidston of Youngstown.

Anita L. (Ricci) Mazzi
YOUNGSTOWN Anita L. Ricci Mazzi born Aug. 20, 1942 to Howard Ricci and Lena Colian Ricci, expired Jan. 5, 2007 of complications of End Stage Renal Disease.
Mrs. Mazzi graduated from Ursuline High School in 1960 and attended Mercyhurst College, Youngstown Hospital School of Medical Technology, and St. Elizabeth School of Cytotechnology. Founder and owner of ALM Cytology Lab, she also helped to establish the Northeast Ohio Society of Cytotechnologists and served as its first president. She retired from her business in 1992. Committed to serving the community, Mrs. Mazzi was a volunteer member for several years of the combined campus ministry at Youngstown State University, an organization that worked to meet the medical needs of students. She served four years as president of the Auxiliary of the 10th District Academy of Osteopathic Medicine and organized the 100th year anniversary celebration of the Osteopathic Profession.
A lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Mrs. Mazzi served on the Parish Council, was director of Youth Ministry and Catechism teacher for nearly 30 years in addition to belonging to the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Cinquanta Club of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and served as president of the Oblate Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dr. James A. Mazzi of Liberty Township; two daughters, Angela Mazzi, an architect in Cleveland and Alicia Mazzi, an attorney in Cleveland; her granddaughter, Olivia Bringle; her brother, John Ricci of Austintown; and an uncle, Romeo Ricci of Youngstown.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Rossi Bros. Funeral Home in Boardman and a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Youngstown.

LeRoy O. Meredith, 92
YOUNGSTOWN - LeRoy O. Meredith, 92, of Sharlene Dr., passed away Friday afternoon, Jan. 5, 2007, at Meridian Arms Care Center. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mr. Meredith was born April 30, 1914 in Seattle, Wash., a son of the late Albert and Kathryn DePue Meredith, and came to New Springfield in 1924 before moving to Youngstown, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
He attended Chaney High School and was WWII U.S. Navy veteran, where he served aboard an aircraft carrier in the South Pacific.
LeRoy worked for his father at the family-owned gas station, was a manager for United Parcel Delivery, and was a fireman for the Youngstown Fire Department for 31 years, retiring in 1976. He also worked for K.I.T. Builders and the ONeill Tarpaulin Company.
He was an active member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he attended Sunday school, and he was a member of the Lutheran Laymens League, the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, and the United Lutheran Society. Mr. Meredith also was a member of the Police and Fire Retirees, Chapter 10, the Catholic War Veterans John J. Buckely Post No. 1292, and the St. Georges Croatian Lodge No. 66.
He leaves his wife of nearly 70 years, Anne K. Pagac Meredith, whom he married June 5, 1937; two sons, LeRoy P. (Betty Ann) Meredith of Cottonwood, Ariz., and Dennis W. (Rita) Meredith of Azle, Texas; a daughter, Carole A. (John) Zimmerman of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, Ben Meredith, Cynthia Bynum, Eric Meredith, Meredith Zimmerman and John Zimmerman; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Devon, and Tanner.
A brother, George Marlowe Meredith, is deceased.

Joseph R. Michael, 79
BOARDMAN Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home and 10:30 in Saint Dominic Church for Joseph R. Michael, 79, who died Thursday afternoon at Saint Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Michael was born May 1, 1927, in Youngstown, a son of Samuel and Alma Khoury Michael.
He was a 1945 graduate of Ursuline High School and a graduate of Youngstown State University. He sold donuts from the time he was 15 years of age till he was 44 and was known as The Donut Man. He then worked briefly as a real estate agent and for the past 33 years worked as an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus.
Joe was a member of St. Dominic Church where he went to Mass daily. He was a 4th degree knight with the Knights of Columbus Council No. 274. He was a Cardinal Mooney High School Booster. Joe was a big Notre Dame and New York Yankee fan and loved golf.
Besides his wife, the former Nancy M. Tinkler, whom he married Aug. 24, 1954, he leaves a son, David (Marilyn) Michael of Rocky River; four daughters, Meg (Greg) Hildebrandt and Marie (Denio) Leone, both of Rocky River, Anne (Glenn) Daly of Shrewsbury, Mass., and Mary Therese (Kevin) Konrad of Rocky River; two brothers, Eddie Michael of Newport News, Va., and Willie Michael of Austintown; a sister Mary Karkafi of North Lima; and 14 grandchildren, Sarah, Joe and Liz Michael, Ellie, Ian and Alex Hildebrandt, Annie, Denio, Mary and John Leone, Mary Therese and Patrick Daly, Katie and Michael Konrad.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Rose Meena, Amy Nassar and Ada Michael, and a brother, Freddie Michael.

Dorothy Genive Wilcox Moyer
YOUNGSTOWN There will be services Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, 2045 Jacobs Road, for Dorothy Genive Wilcox Moyer, who departed this life Dec. 31, 2006, with her loving family by her side at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Moyer was born Dec. 4, 1927 in Youngstown, the daughter of John and Ida Mae Rousseau Wilcox.
A 1948 graduate of The Rayen School, she met and married her high school sweetheart, Heybert L. Moyer Sr. on Nov. 4, 1950.
In addition to raising her five children, she worked for Western Reserve Care System (now Forum Health) in the Environmental Services Department, retiring in the late 1980s after many years of dedicated service. She volunteered her time at Harding School, working with children in the S.T.A.R.S. program assisting them in reading which she enjoyed until her illness prevented her from continuing. She also enjoyed arts and crafts and baking.
She was a member of the Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful and dedicated member of the Senior Ushers Ministry.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 56 years; two daughters, Marguerite (William) Allen of Youngstown and Denise Moyer of Texas; two sons, Darrell and H. Leonard (Lurell) Moyer Jr., both of Youngstown; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronald A. and an infant son, Tyrone; a sister, Mattie Wilcox; and three brothers, Preston, John and Carl Wilcox.

Charles V.H. Rudge Sr., 87
BOARDMAN Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Episcopal Church for Charles V.H. Rudge Sr., 87, who passed away Saturday morning at Beeghly Oaks.
Mr. Rudge was born Feb. 2, 1919 in Youngstown, a son of Joseph A. and Mary E. Van Horn Rudge.
He attended Washington & Jefferson College and was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield. After more than 30 years of service, he retired in 1984 as vice president.
He was a member and past president of SAR, and a 50-year member of the Western Star Lodge F&AM. He was a member of the church and a former member of its Vestry.
A WWII U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, he served four years with the 12th Air Force 64th Fighter Wing.
Surviving him are his wife, the former Gertrude Orr, whom he married June 7, 1941; a son, Charles (Diane) Rudge Jr. of Boardman; two daughters, Susan J. Rudge of Oxford and Nancy J. Rudge of Cincinnati; and one grandson, Charles (Michelle) Rudge III.
Preceding him in death besides his parents is a brother, Joseph J. Rudge.

AUSTINTOWN - Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m.at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for Rosemarie Shanabarger, 64, who passed away early Saturday morning at her home after an extended illness.
Rosemarie was born May 4, 1942, in Youngstown, the daughter of Homer L. and June P. Carroll.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, and will be remembered by her family as a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Her husband, Ronald H. Shanabarger, whom she married June 23, 1961, died Jan. 12, 2004.
She is survived by two daughters, June Marie (Gary) Bohr of Austintown, and Rose Marie (Tim) Phenicie of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, Ronald H. (Meri) Shanabarger Jr. of Austintown, and Donald D. (Maria) Shanabarger of Mt. Airy, Md.; two sisters, JoAnn (Barry) Claycomb of Youngstown, and Debbie Miller of Mineral Ridge; three brothers, George W. (Marilyn) Emerick of New Springfield, Albert C. (Diane) Emerick of Youngstown, and Michael J. (Nancy) Emerick of Austintown; and 11 grandchildren, Timmy, BriAnne, Ryan, Erica, Gary, Donald, Christopher, Taylor, Matthew, Austin and Ike.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Dominick Joe Soda, 91
WARREN Dominick Joe Soda, 91, of 3151 Foster Drive N.E., died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007, at his residence following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 3, 1916 in Niles, the son of Charles and Margaret (DeAugustine) Soda.
A lifetime area resident, he attended Niles Schools where he played football and baseball. He was employed as a boilermaker for the U. S. Steel works in McDonald for 34 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church of Warren and was an avid sports fan.
His wife of 57 years, Mary C. (Macciocco), whom he married Sept. 19, 1945, preceded him in death Aug. 31, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Debbie Van Winkle and husband David with whom he made his home; five grandchildren, Danny Miller, Danny Prince, Dominic Van Winkle, Nicole Wayt and Eleanor Van Winkle; a great-grandson, Arison Wayt; and a brother, Patrick Soda (Mary) of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Danny; three brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. James Walker officiating.
Interment will be at All Souls Cemetery.

Atlee W. Sponseller, 82
NILES Atlee W. Sponseller, 82, died at 9:36 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2007 at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren.
He was born Aug. 22, 1924 in Paris, Ohio, the son of Arthur Ray and Gladys (Haynam) Sponseller.
Mr. Sponseller served with the U.S. Navy Seabees, 18th Special Battalion in the Pacific Theater during WWII.
He worked as an electrical engineer and as maintenance general foreman for RMI Titanium for 25 years and had also worked for Patterson Emerson Comstock for 11 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Warren, a 60-year member of William McKinley Lodge No. 431, F&AM in Canton, and a member of the Wayne Township Antique Engine Club. He was an amateur ham radio operator and amateur astronomer, and also enjoyed fishing and boating. He was very proud of the time he volunteered with the Ohio Reads program through Washington School in Niles.
Surviving are his wife, Lydia Lockowitz Cibella Sponseller, whom he married April 20, 1985; his children, Alan W. (Debra) Sponseller of Cleveland, Ray S. (Joyce) Sponseller of Bristolville, Dennis R. (Susan) Sponseller of Champion and Mary Jeanne Hutchison of Cortland; two stepsons, Dr. Vincent (Susan) Cibella of Cortland and Kenneth (Elizabeth) Cibella of Howland; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn J. (John) Baker of Louisville, Ohio; and a brother, Robert L. (Carol) Sponseller of Cincinnati.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his first wife, Mary M. (Edwards) Sponseller, whom he married Sept. 26, 1948 and who died Jan. 8, 1984; a daughter, Jodelle Sponseller; and a sister, Carolyn J. Sponseller.
There will services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007 at the McFarland & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Rick Oaks of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Lawn Cemetery in Canton.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Paul David Thoreson, 43
BOARDMAN There will be a memorial service at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman, and then there will be a memorial service Saturday, Jan. 13 in Rapid City, S.D., at the Calvary Lutheran Church for Paul David Thoreson, 43, formerly of Rapid City, S.D.
Mr. Thoreson was born July 14, 1963 in Rapid City, a son of Marlyn B. and Beverly J. Sterud Thoreson.
Paul was a 1981 graduate of Rapid City Central High School and earned his BA degree in electrical engineering at South Dakota State University. He was a manufacturing engineer for 14 years with the General Motors Paint Shop in Lordstown.
He was a member of the church, where he taught Sunday school for many years, and was active with both the Boy Scouts and the Cub Scouts. He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly camping, fishing and hunting. Most of all, Paul loved spending time with and being with his family.
Paul leaves his mother, Beverly J. Thoreson of Rapid City; his wife of 22 years, the former Kathleen Irene Meyer, whom he married Aug. 25, 1984; his four sons, Kelby, Jordan, Erik and Brendan, all at home; his sister, Linda (Samuel) Holcomb of Rapid City; and his brother, Mark Thoreson of Freemont, Neb.
His father, Marlyn B. Thoreson, is deceased.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service on Monday.

Bernadine Jeanette Tyrrell, 74
GIRARD - Bernadine Jeanette Tyrrell, 74, of Craver Avenue, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at her home.
Bernadine was born Jan. 28, 1932 in Marietta, a daughter of the late Charles and Sara Boyce Goodnight, was a graduate of Marietta High School and came to this area in 1962.
She was a homemaker and worked at hospitals in Akron, for Howard Johnsons and Rangos restaurants, and also worked as a model.
She leaves three sons, Steven J. (Theresa) Walters of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Joseph M. (Lisa) Walters of Hartford, and John A. Walters of Austintown; three grandchildren, Justina and Joey Walters of Hartford, and Jason Walters of Austintown; and two sisters, Avalene Schulteis and Olivene Gyurko, both of Marietta.
Bernadines ex-husband, Joseph H. Walters, and her husband, Robert Tyrrell, are both deceased. A grandson, Justin Walters; a brother, Gerald Goodnight; and a sister, Verna Kaywood, are also deceased.
A memorial service for Bernadine will be held at a later date.

Lois Isabelle Williams, 91
SALEM Lois Isabelle Williams, 91, formerly of Chestnut Street in Lisbon, passed away at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 6 at Alterra Sterling House.
She was born Sept. 9, 1915 in East Fairfield to the late Frank and Della (Kettler) Moon.
A homemaker, she was a graduate of East Palestine High School. She was a member of the Lisbon First United Methodist Church, and Iva Chapter No. 311 Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club.
Survivors include her husband, John Jack Williams, whom she married Oct. 18, 1936; son Jack (Judy) Williams of Austintown; daughter Nancy (Gary) Greulach of Fort Wayne, Ind.; son Jim (Cindy) Williams of Poland; sister Grace Patton of East Palestine; 9 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dale Moon; and her sisters, Deloris Kirtley and Ruth Waggaman.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Weber Funeral Home of Lisbon, with the Rev. Betsy Schenk officiating.
Interment will be in Lisbon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
