Alice W. Bodoh, 92
FRAZEYSBURG Alice W. Bodoh, 92, formerly of Newark, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Genesis Extended Care and Rehabilitation Center in Zanesville.
She was born Sept. 25, 1914 near Rocky Fork in Licking County, the daughter of the late David and Verna (Boyer) Willey.
Mrs. Bodoh was a graduate of Newark High School and a graduate of Meredith Business College. She was a retired cook at the Beta Theta Pi fraternity at Dennison University in Granville. She was a member of the Heath Church of Christ and the Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving is a son, William T. (Janet) Bodoh of Bluffton, S.C.; seven daughters, Evelyn Bodoh and Linda Sue (Ray) Yearsley, both of The Villages, Fla., Molly Belli of Lithopolis, Carol (Gary) Bowman of Frazeysburg, Karen (Don) Green of Nashport, Vicky (Bill) Cochran of Cory, Ind., and Joyce Bodoh of Tampa, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold K. Bodoh, who died Feb. 7, 1967; and two brothers, Allen and Wilbur Willey.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third St.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the Fireside Room of the Heath Church of Christ, 1331 Chapel Way in Heath, with Minister Dave Mason officiating.
Burial will be at Wilson Cemetery.

YOUNGSTOWN Clipsie L. Punkin Bohazi, 40, passed away Thursday, Jan. 4.
Punkin leaves to cherish her precious memory her father, Aldridge Jones, her husband, Robert Leonard, her sons, Willie III and James Woodall and Jeffrey Hammond, a daughter, ShaLonda Bohazi, a brother, Richard Carter, and her sisters, Cynquithia Winlock and Carla Monina-Housley, all of Youngstown, and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Blanche Cater; a daughter, Shawntay Bohazi; and her grandmother, Annie Lee Cannady.

Earlene Boswell, 75
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be at noon on Thursday, Jan. 11, at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Earlene Boswell, 75, who departed this life Jan. 7 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
She was born July 31, 1931 in Carrollton, Ga., a daughter of Otto Sr. and Irene Powell North.
Mrs. Boswell was a graduate of South High School and was a cook at the South Park Restaurant, last working in 1982.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters, Crystal L. Allen and Patricia (Clarence) Gordon, both of Youngstown, Marilyn Allie of Columbus, Ohio, and Ramona Schuch both of Columbus, Wis.; three sisters, Claudia Peirson, Opal (Clarence) McCoy and Pearl Carter all of Youngstown; a brother, Otto (Beverly) North, Jr. of West Virginia; seven grandchildren, Raevonne Allen, Irene Gordon, Andre Allie Jr. and Clarence Gordon, Jr., all of Youngstown, and Desiree and Ebony Allen, both of Columbus, Ohio, and Sharona McKinney of Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Jalen Sanders, Dreshawn Allie and Neil Gordon, all of Youngstown, Dream Thomas of Columbus and Armonde and Zharreah McKinney, both of Wisconsin; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Her parents; a son, Freddie M. Boswell; two sisters, Mattie North and Dorothy Brown; and a brother, Raymond North, all preceded her in death.

Alton P. Al Brooks, 75
YOUNGSTOWN There will be services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the L.E. Black, Phillips & Holden Funeral Home for Mr. Alton P. Al Brooks, 75, who departed this life Saturday, Jan. 6, at his home.
Mr. Brooks was born March 9, 1931 in Moulton, Ala., a son of Ralph and Daisy Webb Brooks, coming to this area in 1951.
He was employed as a masseur for 55 years at the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA). He received his certification for masseur in Cleveland during the time of his employment with the YMCA.
Conservative estimates put his massage total at more than 105,000. Prior to his retirement, some of his notable clients over the years included T.V. host Art Linkletter, Vice President Hubert R. Humphrey and actor Jim Nabors, T.V.s Gomer Pyle. After thousands of massages, Al Brooks retired on Sept. 9, 2006.
He had also received his civil commission with the Mahoning County Sheriffs Department. He was a U. S. Army veteran.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, the former Sophia Thrash, whom he married in 1957; a son, Alton P. Brooks II of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Darrolyn R. Bell of Rochester, Pa., and Cherol R. Brooks of Youngstown; two sisters, Pearl Turner and Ethel Marie Doty both of Akron; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
His parents; a brother, Ralph E. Brooks; and grandson, Juaquin Bell, all preceded him in death.

Edward Ward Crawford, 75
SANDUSKY Edward Ward Crawford, 75, of 100 Quail Hollow Circle in Warren, passed away at 3 p.m. Friday at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.
He was born June 13, 1931 in Cleveland, the son of Rue and Alice Ward Crawford.
Edward retired from Packard Electric Company. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and also served in the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Elks Club No. 295 for 39 years.
His wife of 40 years, Janis R. Landis Crawford, survives. He also leaves a son, Landis E. Crawford of Warren; a daughter, Donna C. Crawford of Warren; and a granddaughter, Beyonca Freeman of Warren.
His parents are deceased.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Sinchak & Sons Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Niles, preceded by a 9:15 a.m. prayer service at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Vienna Township Cemetery.

Ronald H. Grate Sr., 67
NORTH LIMA Ronald H. Grate Sr. 67, of 9733 Woodworth Road, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown from complications of emphysema. Mr. Grate had been in the hospital for one day.
Ronald was born Jan. 21, 1939 in Pennsylvania, the son of Howard and Ruth McDonald Grate.
Mr. Grate moved to the Youngstown area in his youth and had resided locally ever since. He was a bus driver for the Boardman School District for 15 years and had also owned and operated J&R Nursery for 25 years. Ronald was a member of the Western Reserve Baptist Church in Boardman. Ronald had served in the U.S. Army for two years.
Mr. Grate is survived by his wife, the former Joanne Wilson. They were married March 1, 1985. Other survivors include his mother, Ruth Grate of South Carolina; a daughter, Rochelle Cole of North Lima; a son, Douglas Cole and his wife Jennifer of Dayton; and three grandchildren, Kassie, Olivia and Ethan.
Mr. Grate was preceded in death by his son Ronald Randy H. Grate, Jr. Dec. 18, 2006 and he was preceded in death by a brother David Grate Sr.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Western Reserve Baptist Church in Boardman with Rev. Wayne Gregory officiating.

Rosa Hundzsa, 88
DIAMOND Rosa Hundzsa, 88, died at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 5 at the home of her friend in Englewood, Fla., from natural causes.
She was born Dec. 3, 1917 in Hungary, the daughter of Ferenc Nagy and Julianna (Rago) Nagy, and had lived in Diamond since 1952 and was formerly of Cleveland.
She was a housewife and a member of the Lakeview Assembly of God in Lake Milton, where she enjoyed attending and working at the church.
Her husband, John Hundzsa, whom she married Dec. 10, 1952, passed away Oct. 1, 1987 after 34 years of marriage.
She is survived by two sons, Frank Hundzsa of Diamond and Nicholas and Linda Hundzsa of Ravenna; two daughters, Maria and Calvin Miller of Menahga, Minn., and Elizabeth and Steve Borchers of Maple Plains, Minn.; her friends with whom she resided, Don and Gloria Baker of Berlin Center; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Lakeview Assembly of God, where there will be 11 a.m. funeral services.
Burial will be at Palmyra West Cemetery in Diamond.

Dorothy Kavoklis, 80
BOARDMAN Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Greek Orthodox Church in Boardman for Dorothy Kavoklis, 80, who passed away early Saturday morning.
Dorothy was born Sept. 8, 1926 in Youngstown, the daughter of Gregory and Helen (Flessa) Rossvanes.
She was a graduate of South High School and a member of Phlioptochos of the church. She loved to sew, working with ceramics and gardening flowers.
Her husband, Atty. K.J. Kavoklis, passed away on Nov. 6, 1980.
She leaves behind a daughter, Diane Finch of Boardman; two sons, John (Karen) Kavoklis and Greg (Robin) Kavoklis, both of California; six grandchildren, Jena, Anton, Gregory, Nicholas, Kaleigh and Molly; two sisters, Ethyl Mazarakis and Mary Rossi; and a brother, Charles Rossvanes.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Robert Finch; and a brother, Nick Rossvanes.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Thomas Kolesar, 88
BOARDMAN There will be services Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Rossi Bros. Funeral Home in Boardman and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown, for Thomas Kolesar, 88, who passed away Sunday morning.
Thomas was born June 2, 1918 in Youngstown, the son of John and Ann (Dulovic) Kolesar.
He retired from LTV Steel, where he worked in the shipping and scheduling office of the coal strip mill for more than 30 years. He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and the AFL-CIO bowling league. He was a graduate of South High School and a past trustee of the AFL-CIO.
Thomas served as a Technician 4th Grade with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with a Bronze Star, the American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon for his service in Burma, India.
He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Cleveland Indians.
His wife, the former Madeline Hrinko, whom he married July 14, 1947, passed away Dec. 20, 1993.
He will always be remembered by his two daughters, Carolyn (John) Kordupel and Janet Ambrosio (James) Rice; three grandchildren, James, Gina and Stephen Ambrosio; a sister, Agnes Roble of Largo, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers John and Frank Kolesar; and a sister, Ann Thurik.

Frederick C. Rick Lanz
NEW HAVEN, CONN. Frederick C. Rick Lanz passed away Jan. 4.
He was the pastor of the First Baptist Church in New Haven, former director of The Street Ministry in West Hartford, Conn., and former pastor of the Harbor Church in Block Island, R.I.
A 1963 graduate of Chaney High School, Mr. Lanz graduated from Youngstown State University in 1968.
He leaves his wife, Wilhelmina Billie Lanz; his mother, Doris Lanz of Youngstown; his sons, Fritz Lanz and wife Kateri Collins of East Greenwich, R.I., and Benjamin Lanz and wife Sonya Hofer of Doudeville, France; siblings, Marcie Welch, James and Scott of Youngstown; and two grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in New Haven.

Lucinda Cindy McElroy, 79
YOUNGSTOWN Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Greater Calvary Baptist Church for Lucinda Cindy McElroy, 79, who departed this life Friday, Jan. 5.
Mrs. McElroy was born May 14, 1927 in Toomsuba, Miss., a daughter of Milton and Bessie Moody Reed, coming to this area in 1947.
She worked for General Motors Lordstown in the assembly plant for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Greater Calvary Baptist Church and its choir and usher board. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and bingo.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 60 years, Robert Lee McElroy, whom she married Feb. 1, 1946; four sons, Eddee (Vivian) of Liberty, Robert James (Diedre) of Los Angeles, Colman (Charlene) of Virginia and James (Sue) of Youngstown; two daughters, Raheema (Leonard) Franklin of Youngstown and Mildred Peaches McElroy of New Castle, Pa.; two sisters, Mildred Pack of Youngstown and Bessie Bailey of Philadelphia; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Gowdy and Sadie Griffin; two brothers, Jeff and Thomas Lee Reed; and her adopted son, Troy McElroy.

Virginia M. Northall, 86
POLAND Virginia M. Northall, 86, was ushered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center with her family present.
She was born Sept. 7, 1920 in Etowa, Tenn., a daughter of William and Minnie Pearl Newton Smith, coming to Struthers as a young girl.
A 1940 graduate of Struthers High School, Mrs. Northall was a member of the Christ Community Church in Campbell and a charter member of the former Fairview Immanuel Baptist Church in Struthers, where she was a member of its choir, loved singing solos and served as a Deaconess and treasurer.
She worked as an insurance agent for Watt Insurance Agency in Struthers for 32 years.
Mrs. Northall was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge, Columbiana Chapter No. 428, and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 64. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club South, The Poland Grange and was an active and loyal member of the Duck & Dive Square Dance Club. She was 4-H advisor for the Poland Saddle Pals, scorekeeper for the Poland Fireman Little League, den mother for the Cub Scouts, and was an avid baseball, football and college basketball fan.
She leaves her husband of 66 years, William, whom she married July 20, 1940; a daughter, Rebecca (Dan) Mottram of Lowellville; a son, Roger (Sue) Northall of Champion; four grandchildren, Gretchen Dodrill, David Mottram, Mark (Brittney) Northall and Amy (Dan) Bondi; and five great-grandchildren, Kennedi, Tori, Joey, Laini and Joshy.
Her greatest love in life was her family, who came second only to God. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family will forever treasure her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Arvel Smith; and a sister, Willabelle Allen.

Robert D. Bob Patella Sr., 56
BOARDMAN There will be memorial services at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Rossi Bros. Funeral Home in Boardman for Robert D. Bob Patella Sr., 56, who passed away suddenly Friday from an apparent heart attack.
Bob will always be remembered and loved by his family and friends.
He was born Sept. 12, 1950 in Youngstown, the son of Chester and Lucille (Marenkovic) Patella.
A 1968 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Bob was employed at Extrusions Dye Company as a dye cutter and then at Senior Aero Space in San Diego, where he retired from in 2000. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing, collecting music, walking with his wife in Mill Creek Park, old cars and was a huge football fan.
Bob was a very humble man and was always a gentleman, but had his heart broken when his son became sick.
He leaves behind his wife, the former Susan Uhlar, whom he married Sept. 18, 1971; a son, Robert D. Patella Jr. of Boardman; a brother, Daniel (Joanne) Patella of Youngstown; and his cherished pet cat, Frisky.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Charlotte Ciccotelli.

Leonard S. Rich, 64
NEW CASTLE, PA. Leonard S. Rich, 64, of 535 Kingswood Drive, died Saturday at Jameson Hospital North in New Castle.
He was the son of the late Leonard Rich and Rose (Marino) Rich.
He was employed by the Laurel School District as an educational consultant. He had previously served the school district as a teacher of math and Latin. He became principal, then superintendent. He was also a head football coach and assisted in coaching basketball and baseball. In addition, Leonard served as athletic director at Laurel.
He was a member of St. Vitus Catholic Church and the New Castle Rotary Club No. 89 and was past president of the New Castle Greater Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. (Ambrosia) Rich; a daughter, Lisa Rich of New Castle; two sons, Leonard A. and Monica Rich of New Castle and Jonathan E. Rich of Dayton; a sister, Lenore Rich Sumner of New Castle; a half brother, Joseph Rich of Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren, Nicolas, Emmalee and Olivia Rich and Alexis Prejsnar and Samuel Myers, all of New Castle.
Arrangements are being handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A procession will leave the funeral home Thursday at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Vitus Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Petrarulo officiating.
Interment will be at Parkside Memorial Cemetery in New Castle.

Eleanor JoAnne Rouan
ZANESVILLE Edward Harvey Rouan 78, of Zanesville, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House following an extended illness. His wife, Eleanor JoAnne Rouan, passed away Friday, Dec. 29, 2006 at Genesis Hospice Morrison House.
They are survived by two sons, Edward (Mary Ann) Rouan of Nashport and Gary (Penny) Rouan of Senecaville; two daughters, Kathleen (Joseph) Corry of Dublin and Mary Jane (Michael) Bednarczuk of Zanesville; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Richard O. Scharein, 56
BOARDMAN Richard O. Scharein, 56, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at Akron Childrens Regional Burn Center.
He was born Sept. 7, 1950 in Youngstown to Otto and Gertrude (Fingado) Scharein.
Mr. Scharein received his B.A. in History and his MBA in banking and Finance from Youngstown State University. He was a caregiver to his mother, an avid runner and a sports enthusiast.
Richard was a member of the former St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Youngstown.
Survivors include his three sisters, Katharine Morgan of Cleveland, Trudy (Dean) Lewis of Alliance and Nancy (George) Ewing of Streetsboro; three nieces; four nephews; four grandnieces and four grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Interment will be at Lake Park Cemetery in Youngstown.

YOUNGSTOWN There were funeral services today at the F.D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home for Kelvin Terry, 51, who departed this life Jan. 1 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
He was born May 15, 1955 in Youngstown, a son of Herman Hudson and Lucille Scott Terry.
Mr. Terry was a Marine veteran.
He leaves two sisters, Louise West and DeSonia (Albert) Drummond, and a brother, Lorenzo (Jocely) Terry, all of Youngstown.
William Buddy Wright Zeller, 17
DIAMOND William Buddy Wright Zeller, 17, of Palmyra Road, passed unexpectedly Sunday, Jan. 7, morning in his home.
He was born July 17, 1989 in Youngstown and was the only son of Peter William Bill and Dianne Lynn (Wright) Zeller.
Buddy was currently a senior at Jackson-Milton High School and was on the track and golf teams. Buddy lettered in football and was most proud of the decoy play. He was manager of the junior varsity basketball team and played on the Jackson Concrete Slammers little league baseball team.
Buddy loved video games, hanging out with his friends and enjoyed life and everyone he met. Buddy lived for speed with his and his fathers snow mobiles, dirt bikes and four wheelers.
Besides his parents of the home, Buddy is survived by his mamaw, Carol Sue Wright, Grandma Eddie; his aunts, Pam (John) Mayle of Philippi, W.Va., Margaret (Floyd) Clark of Canfield, Patricia Zeller of Austintown, Charlotte (Kenny) Napela of Mineral Ridge and Elizabeth (John) Olinger of Salem; many cousins; and a host of friends.
Buddy was preceded in death by his papaw, Kenneth Wright.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, where family and friends may from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday before the service.
