Macy J. Bailey, 91
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. Macy J. Bailey, 91, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 3 Webster St. in Lakewood, 78 Colfax St. and 126 Jefferson St. in Salamanca, N.Y., died Monday, Jan. 8, at WCA Hospital.
A Jamestown area resident since August of 1974, she was born April 12, 1915 in Akron, the daughter of Reno H. and Frances Chaffee Berkey.
She was the widow of Arthur J. Bailey, whom she married Sept. 28, 1933 in Lottsville, Pa., and who died Dec. 13, 1987.
Mrs. Bailey was a 1932 graduate of Garfield High School, Firestone Park in Akron and later, from the Authors Institute of Childrens Literature in New Hampshire, the Chautauqua Writers Conference and various literary institutes. During WWII, she became the first Station Agent of the Erie Railroad and concluded a 30-year career, retiring in 1974.
Even though never leaving the U.S. until age 75, Mrs. Bailey became a prolific travel writer, having toured and written travelogue books about Western Europe, Italy, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, England, Ireland and the Caribbean Islands. Even while confined to the Lutheran Home, she wrote and published a fiction novel, Never Give Up Your Dream, which is still being sold on the Internet and by Dorrance Publishing.
Mrs. Bailey also was an accomplished lifelong musician, having excelled in classical piano and having become a lead harpist in the Ohio All-State Symphony during high school, including appearances in the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra Hall.
During her life, she was active in the Rebekahs Lodge, having become a 50-year member, a past Noble Grand and a State District Deputy. She was also active in the St. Agnes Altar Guild and the past president of the Bishop Overs Guild of the St. Lukes Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Bailey was survived by two sons, Arthur N. Bailey and David B. Bailey, both of Jamestown; a brother, Reno H. Berkey Jr. of Lorida, Fla.; six grandchildren, Arthur N. Bailey Jr. of San Francisco, Darlene M. Kennedy of Geneva, Ill., Kimberly A. Ward of Oklahoma City, Okla., Christine Bailey-Kellogg of Hanover, N.H., Robert R. Bailey, Jr of Jamestown and Catherine Bailey South of Jamestown; and five great-grandchildren, Alex Ann and Lauren Kennedy, Dayton M. Ward, Bailey Mae South and Trevor R.J. South.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Muriel Bailey, who passed away as an infant in 1941; a son, Robert R. Bailey, who died Feb. 25, 2001; a grandson, Bruce Wayne Bailey, who passed away Oct. 15, 1967; and a brother, Kenneth W. Berkey, who died in 1977.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the St Lukes Episcopal Church. The Rev. Eric M. Williams, Rector, will officiate.
Burial will be at Bear Lake Cemetery.

Lois B. Dull, 83
NILES Lois B. Dull, 83, of Sherman Street, died Monday evening.
She was born Nov. 30, 1923 in Huntington, Ind. to Alva Edward and Margaret Ann (Callihan) Barber.
A 1941 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, she was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Niles. She worked at the McKinley Memorial Library from 1941 to 1954 and in later years she served on the William McKinley Memorial Library Board of Directors for 25 years.
She will always be remembered as a good and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, David A. Dull Sr., whom she married Aug. 25, 1951; son, David A. (Leah) Dull Jr. of Niles; daughter, Meredith Kaye (Thomas William) Elliott of Niles; and four grandchildren, Christopher, Emma and David Elliott and Audra Dull.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Frank and Edward Barber, and six sisters, Kathryn Althouse, Georgia Bentley, Dorothy Perkins, Grace Cook, Betty Barker and Infant Coral Barber.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, where family and friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Beth Ferne Johnson will officiate.
Burial will be at Niles City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund.

Julia A. Dutko, 79
YOUNGSTOWN There will be a memorial Mass Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Holy Name Church for Julia A. Dutko, 79, who passed away Friday Dec. 15, 2006.

Mary Alyce Hanawalt, 81
KINSMAN Mary Alyce Hanawalt, 81, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown.
She was born March 29, 1925, in Warren to Earl and Elza (Trumbull) Wilson.
A long time Kinsman resident, Mrs. Hanawalt had lived in Youngstown for the past six years. She was a member of the Kinsman Presbyterian Church, where she served as a ruling elder and on the Board of Trustees. Her hobbies included sewing.
Mrs. Hanawalt married Dr. Russell A. Hanawalt, D.V.M., on July 20, 1946, and he died June 21, 1999.
Also preceding her in death is her sister, Minnie Almburg.
She is survived by her two sons, Timothy W. Hanawalt of Cortland and Dr. Martin E. Hanawalt of Findlay; two brothers, Eugene Wilson and Carl Wilson, both of Cortland; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
There will be a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St. in Kinsman, with Rev. Larry Myers officiating.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.

Eleanor Perkins Morgan, 91
BOARDMAN There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at the Western Reserve Baptist Church for Eleanor Perkins Morgan, 91, who died Tuesday morning at Shepherd of the Valley.
Eleanor was born Feb. 1, 1915 in Youngstown, the daughter of Thomas G. Griffiths and Cora (Lamb) Griffiths, and was a lifelong area resident.
She retired in 1976 as an accountant for the Womans Board of Youngstown Hospital Association after 10 years. She had also worked for Boardman Supply Company and Brenners Jewelers.
Eleanor graduated from South High School. She was a member of the Western Reserve Baptist Church, where she had served on most of the church boards. She was a member and founder of the Round Tuits Club of the church and the Friends of America Art Club. Eleanor loved to sew, collect art and travel.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Bob) Guyan of Boardman; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, and Patty and Jerre Patterson and their daughter, Colleen whom she considered her second family.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husbands, Ed. G. Perkins, whom she married in 1940 and who died in 1968, and William Morgan, whom she married in 1975 and who died in 1989; her sisters, Thelma Griffiths, Florence Eckert and Ruth Byers; and her brothers, Edwin, Fred and Curtis Griffiths.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church before services.

Warren E. Rabbit Payne, 57
YOUNGSTOWN Warren E. Rabbit Payne, 57, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Rabbit leaves to mourn his loss his mother Gussie McGrady, wife Laverne Payne and son Neil Clemmons, all of Youngstown; daughters, Brenda Young of Fort Worth, Texas and Tangie Payne of Youngstown; brothers, James (Bridgett) Payne of Liberty Township, Kenneth (Vanessa) Payne of Youngstown and Steve Gardner of Cleveland; sister, Corrine Payne of Youngstown; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Payne; sister, Linda Gardner; and a nephew, Edgar Davis III.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Howard-Rhoden Memorial Home.

Andrew J. Russo Sr.
STRUTHERS There will be services Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers and at 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Church for Andrew J. Russo Sr., who died Monday evening at Assumption Village.
He was born June 15, 1924 in Lowellville, a son of Anthony and Josephine DAmico Russo, and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Russo had been a bricklayer for Sharon Steel for 20 years before joining the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.
He was a WWII Marine veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre with the 562nd Platoon. He was a member of the church and the ITAM.
He leaves his wife, the former Phyllis Ingorvate, whom he married Nov. 29, 1947; two sons, Anthony of McDonald and Andrew Jr. of New Middletown; a daughter, Rose Johnstone of Columbiana; a brother, Alfred of Lowellville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Benny, Patsy and Arthur, and three sisters, Helen Adduch, Carmel Giancola and Minnie Nardis.
Friends may call from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
John R. Schrader, 61
AUSTINTOWN A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Austintown Community Church for John R. Schrader, 61, who died Monday morning at the Forum Health Northside Medical Center emergency room.
John was born Feb. 1, 1945 in Warren, the son of the late John A. and Martha B. (Lewis) Schrader.
He retired in 2005 from W.C.I. Steel in Warren where he had been a roll grinder.
He was a member of the Austintown Community Church, a 1964 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, a member of American Legion Post No. 301 in Austintown and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Harris, whom he married Feb. 12, 1972. He leaves a daughter, Kerri Sue Tarr of Youngstown; two sisters, Barbara (Anthony) Sherock of Littleton, Colo. and Janet Taylor of Hubbard; two grandchildren, Summer Tarr and Kendall Tarr; four nieces; three great-nieces; and four great-nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Eddie Schrader.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Frances Crable Sutter, 88
EAST LIVERPOOL Frances Crable Sutter, 88, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, at Alterra Clare Bridge Cottage of Austintown, where she had been residing for the past year.
Born Sept. 23. 1918 in Buehl, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late Bernard James Callan and Mabel Olive Stearnes Callan.
She had resided in East Liverpool for 40 years, where she met and married her husband, Richard R. Crable.
Following Mr. Crables death, she married G. Edward Sutter Jr. in the late 1970s and resided in Bellevue, Pa. until his death in 2004. While in Bellevue, she was a member of the Pittsburgh Athletic Association, and had been a member of the Iroquois Club at Conneaut Lake, where they had a summer home.
Protestant by faith, she had worked for the former Crable Insurance Agency at one time. She served as an auxiliary volunteer at East Liverpool City Hospital, was a board member at the Mary Patterson Home here, and at one time was a member of the East Liverpool Country Club. In addition, she also belonged to the East Liverpool Womens Club and the former E.L.G.G.A.
Always the hostess, she loved to entertain, and also enjoyed playing bridge and cribbage, doing crossword puzzles and reading.
She will be missed by her many friends and her loving family, which include a daughter, Betsy Crable Miller and her husband William L. Miller of East Liverpool; and two stepdaughters, Diane Sutter of Boston and Helen Sutter Turkalj of Greensburg, Pa.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard F. Crable; a grandson, Jason Miller; and a sister, Margaret McGarry.
There are five grandchildren surviving, Michael Miller and his wife Danielle of St. Michael, Minn., Mark Miller and his wife Kim of Cincinnati, Lauri Whitaker and her husband Bryan of Spokane, Wash., Rick Crable of Orlando, Fla. and Christopher Crable Stewart of Spokane.
There are also two step grandchildren, Travis Turkalj and Kyle Turkalj, along with six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as her longtime and dearest friend, Helen Sant.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dawson Funeral Home with the Rev. Katrina Lewis of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Charles A. Chuck Sweeney, 78
AUSTINTOWN There will be services at 8 p.m. Friday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Charles A. Chuck Sweeney, 78, of Canfield, who passed away Monday evening at Briarfield Manor.
Chuck was born June 7, 1928 in Youngstown, the son of Charles W. and Ann T. Murphy Sweeney.
He was a graduate of Chaney High School and had worked at the G.M. Lordstown plant as a painter for more than 21 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Michaels Church.
He is remembered by his family as a dedicated family man, a great story teller, and for his passion for woodworking.
His wife, the former Virginia A. Lambert, whom he married June 11, 1949, died Sept. 12, 2005.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda A. Gieresher of Phoenix, Karen E. (Paul) Kalosky of Canfield, and Diane M. Teutsch of Mineral Ridge; a son, David S. (Mary Ann) Sweeney of Struthers; two sisters, Eileen (John) Polish of Austintown and Peggy (Bill) Georges of Harrington Park, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Ana) Czoka, Kevin (Andrea) Czoka, Megan and Jenna Kalosky, Kelly and David Sweeney, and Jillian and Kaitlin Teutsch; and two great-grandchildren, Martin and Ginny Czoka.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant son, Kenneth Michael Sweeney.

Betty Jane Wilmoth
WARREN Betty Jane Wilmoth, of 725 Ohio Ave. N.W., died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, at St. Elizabeth Health Center following a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 12, 1939 in Warren, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Garabrant) Marsh.
A lifetime area resident, she was a loving homemaker and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was an avid sports fan and also enjoyed playing darts.
Betty is survived by her husband, Robert E. Wilmoth, whom she married Oct. 5, 1974; a daughter, Darlene M. Davies of Newton Falls; a son, Jeffrey T. (Roberta) Davies of Warren; her stepchildren, Alan Davies of Youngstown, Robert T. (Kimberly) Wilmoth of Lake Milton, Susan L. (James) Pilkenton of Charlotte, N.C., and Connie L. Johnson of Bradenton, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William E. Marsh Jr. and Robert J. Marsh; and a sister, Shirley Collins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Roberts-Clark Chapel, where friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and for one hour prior to the service. Pastor Gene Eason will officiate.
Cremation will follow and her ashes will be buried at Pineview Memorial Park.
