Sister Eileen Basel, H.M., 76
VILLA MARIA, PA. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. at the Villa Maria Chapel in Villa Maria, for Sister Eileen Basel, H.M., 79, who died Thursday, Jan. 18, at Villa Maria Community Center.
She was born in Cleveland, the daughter of George and Marie (McMahon) Basel. She entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary on Jan. 15, 1949.
Sister Eileens ministry in education included assignments at St. Patrick in Hubbard, St. Brendan, St. Edward, and Youngstown State University in Youngstown. In addition, she served at the Villa Maria Community Center.
Sister Eileen is survived by her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation, and sisters, Alice Biltz of Garfield Heights and Geraldine Bishop of Chosaning, Mich.
Calling hours will be Monday, Jan. 22, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Villa Maria Chapel. A Wake service is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 22, at 7:15 p.m.

Melanie Anne Bonacker, 32
YOUNGSTOWN Melanie Anne Bonacker, 32, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning at her home. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Melanie was born Jan. 23, 1974 in Youngstown, a daughter of Kathleen L. Duke Bonacker, and was a lifelong area resident.
She attended Chaney High School, earned a GED, and enjoyed music, playing pool, and most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.
She leaves her mother, Kathleen, with whom she shared her home; two daughters, Kasandra Lynn Morrison and Taylor Renee Gerthung at home; a brother, Kenneth C. Bonacker of Girard; her grandmother, Mae M. Duke of Boardman; and a niece, Katie Ann Bonacker.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mildred K. Mitze Filipone, 96
STRUTHERS - Mildred K. Mitze Filipone, 96, formerly of Como Street, passed away Monday afternoon at Beeghly Medical Center in Boardman.
Mildred was born March 31, 1910 in Butler, Pa., a daughter of the late Albert and Helen Eichenlaub Wellner, and lived in the New Castle and Youngstown areas for much of her life.
In her younger years, Mitze was a singer and nightclub entertainer.
Mrs. Filipone leaves two brothers, Russell and Robert Bud Wellner, both of Butler; a sister, Mae Engle of Charlotte, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Tony Filipone, whom she married March 1, 1940, died Oct. 30, 1989. Three brothers, Floyd, Wilbert, and Ralph Wellner; and a sister, Alice Hinchberger, are also deceased.
There are no services or calling hours.
Mitze will be interred next to her husband at Lake Park Cemetery.

Charlotte R. Gardner, 73
VIENNA TOWNSHIP Charlotte R. Gardner, 73, died Friday at the Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.
Mrs. Gardner was born in Youngstown March 19, 1933, a daughter of Dr. Thomas F. and Rose M. (Kovacs) Kupensky.
A 1951 graduate of Vienna High School, Charlotte furthered her education by obtaining her bachelors degree in Education in 1955 from Youngstown College.
Mrs. Gardner retired from the Joseph Badger Board of Education in 1993 after 40 years as a teacher. She had previously taught with the Girard, Liberty and Fowler School Districts. In addition, she taught in Prince Georges County, Md., and Forest Park School District, where she was a state representative for the Illinois State Education Association.
She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Vienna, where she was a member of the Womans Guild; Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority; Ohio Educational Association; Retired State Teachers Association; National Educational Association; Vienna Alumni Association, where she was the former president; and the Hubbard Business Womans Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, dining, and socializing.
Survivors include her son, Thomas Gardner and wife Barbara of Girard; her daughter, Kathleen DiTommaso and husband Leonard of Vienna; her grandchildren, Brandon and Leiloni Gardner, William Cornfield, and Marco and Dominic DiTommaso; and her niece, Brenda Murdock of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Leroy C. Gardner, whom she married in 1958, and who died in 1970; and by her brother, Thomas J. Kupensky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. Frank Zanni, Pastor, officiating.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield.

Hazel M. Garono, 64
HUBBARD Hazel M. Garono, 64, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, at her residence.
She was born July 14, 1942 in Welch, W.Va., a daughter of Garnette and Cora Blackburn.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends who loved her. Her greatest pleasures in life were going to Seneca Casino with her sisters, Betty, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She leaves her husband, William J. Garono; two sons, Timothy (Stephanie) Ladig and Steven (Stacy) Ladig, both of Hubbard; two sisters, Betty Bingham of Hubbard and Mary (Robert) Brown of Cedar Bluff, Va.; four brothers; a stepdaughter, Denise Garono; and four grandchildren, Katie, Mitchell, Spencer and Skylar Ladig.
Her parents and a brother preceded her in death.
Private funeral services were held at the Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard.

Jane Garrity, 73
COLUMBIANA Jane Garrity, 73, of 110 Bittersweet Drive died at 3 a.m. Saturday at the Salem Community Hospital.
Mrs. Garrity was born Dec. 20, 1933 in Columbiana, a daughter of Homer and Catherine Shearer Zimmerman and had lived in this area all of her life.
She was a homemaker and member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Columbiana. She was also a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine in Cleveland.
Jane was an avid bridge player and participated in several local bridge clubs.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald W. Garrity, whom she married June 2, 1956; two sons, Rick (Brenda) Garrity of Columbiana and Jeff (Jayne) Garrity of Grand Ledge, Mich.; three sisters, LaNorma Shirey, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Wenderoth, Mrs. Darrell (Joan) Gaskill all of Columbiana; three grandsons, Brian (Traci) Garrity, Colby Garrity and his fiancé Leslie Aker and Lee Garrity.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Cross and a brother Larry Zimmerman.
There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Warrick-Kummer Funeral Home, Columbiana with the Reverend David H. Conrad of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in Columbiana Cemetery.

YOUNGSTOWN -- There will be funeral services Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home, Boardman Chapel, 5925 Market St., and at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church for Josephine J. Gasior, 82, who died Saturday morning at Forum Health Northside Health Center.
Mrs. Gasior was born Nov. 26, 1924 in Youngstown, a daughter of Victor and Eleanor Kaminski.
She was employed as a cashier at Gemmas Market until they closed.
Josephine was a member of the church, its Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, its Altar & Rosary Sodality and was a pierogi worker at the church.
She was historian and a member of the Ladies Auxillary, Catholic War Veterans Post 1222.
She is survived by her husband, Steve, whom she married Feb. 9, 1946; three sons Joseph (Buffy) of Youngstown, Victor (Judy) of Lisbon, David (Constance) of Youngstown; two daughters, Veronica (Charles) Wiesensee of Youngstown and Nancy (Ronald) Eichelberger of Lisbon; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, John, Henry, and Stanley Kaminiski; and her twin sister, Helen Miller.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. and there will be a combined prayer service at 3:45 p.m.
John Thomas Geatches, 60
NORTH JACKSON - John Thomas Geatches, 60, passed away Friday morning at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital from complications of Parkinsons Disease and a stroke.
John was born Aug. 11, 1946 in Warren, a son of the late Alfred Wendell and Mary Louise Neubert Geatches.
He had worked at Copperweld Steel in the transportation department, served in the U.S. Army, enjoyed bowling and helped his brother with farmwork.
John is survived by his brother, David of North Jackson and six cousins.
Beside his parents, an infant brother and sister preceded John in death.

Mary Giovannini, 82
McDONALD Mary Giovannini, 82, died Friday, Jan. 19, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Mrs. Giovannini was born Nov. 13, 1924 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Luigi and Jennie Torchio Ciavarella.
She was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Youngstown and enjoyed playing bingo, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her children, David L. (Sue) Giovannini of Valley City and Christina M. (Mark) Pasha of McDonald; sisters, Rose Peterson of Austintown and Barbara (Gary) Heeley of Brooksville, Fla.; brothers, Sam and Jack (Marge) Ciavarella, both of Youngstown, and Jim (Terri) Ciavarella of Boardman; sisters-in-law, Rose Ciavarella of Poland and Josephine Ciavarella of Mineral Ridge; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Angelo Giovannini, whom she married June 3, 1950, and who passed away March 7, 1979; a sister, Lucy Bacha; and brothers, Angelo and Joseph Ciavarella.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at the Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Friends may also call on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Internment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Guenther H. Hille, 89
CANFIELD - A memorial service will be held at a later date for Guenther H. Hille, 89, who passed away on Thursday, Jan. 18.
Guenther was born May 7, 1917 in Milwaukee, the son of Joseph Martin and Gertrude (Thiek) Hille.
A metallurgical engineering graduate of the University of Wisconsin, he taught metallurgical courses at the University Extension Divisions in Manitowoc and Milwaukee. He was the 1948 chairman of the Milwaukee Chapter of American Society for Metals. He was also the sales manager of RMI Titanium offices in Milwaukee, Cleveland, Connecticut and Eastern United States.
Guenther retired as the manager of sales and promotion advertising at RMI Titanium. He was the author of the most comprehensive titanium literature, covering Mechanical Properties, Welding, Corrosion Resistance, Basic Design Facts and others.
He was a member of the American Society for Testing Materials. He was also a member of the F-4 Committee concerned with orthopedic implants and continued to successfully introduce titanium because of its high strength corrosion resistance, as the ideal metal for surgical implants.
Guenther is survived by two children, Barbara and her husband Bud Bort and Brad G. and his wife Becky Hille, both of Canfield, as well as five grandchildren, Joseph, Justin, Jacob, John and Mike, and six great-grandchildren, John, Mike, Megan, Nathan, Steffi and Jack.
Guenther was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy Mattison, whom he married Oct. 16, 1942, and passed away Dec. 16, 2006.

Mae Deloris Jensen, 78
CANFIELD Private services were held for Mae Deloris Jensen, 78, who passed away Friday, Jan. 12, at Park Vista Care Center.
Mae was born May 2, 1928 in Pelican Rapids, Minn., the daughter of Friedtjhof B. and Calma (Kind) Hanson.
She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Morehead Branch, and had taught at Rothsay School for one year prior to her marriage in 1950 when she became a homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church and was a former member of Eastern Star. She and her family moved to Canfield from Pittsburgh in 1970. Prior to that, she lived in the Province of Quebec from 1957 to 1966 and lived in Duluth, Minn., before that.
She leaves her husband, Warren Jensen, whom she married June 24, 1950; three children, David D. (Amy) Jensen of Topsham, Maine, Chris C. Jensen of Tucson, Ariz., and Karren S (Mark) Kandel of Louisville, Ohio; a brother; Odin C. Hanson of Minot, N.D.; and three grandchildren, Karris and Christopher Kandel and Eva Jensen.
There were no calling hours.

CANFIELD Private services were held Saturday at the Wasko Funeral Home with Msgr. Victor Romza officiating for Marjorie D. Jevesok, 74, who passed away Thursday afternoon at Forum Health Northside Medical Center of complications from diabetes.
Mrs. Jevesok was born April 10, 1932 in Youngstown, a daughter of Joseph and Helen Vinkler Surack.
A 1950 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School, Mrs. Jevesok studied opera throughout high school and into her early adult life.
Mrs. Jevesok was a secretary at St. Christines School for 39 years, retiring in 2000.
She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church. She and her husband are affiliates of Daughters of Charity.
Her husband, Joseph Jevesok, whom she married Oct. 7, 1950.
She is survived by her daughters, April (Charles) VanSickle of Charlotte, N.C., and Jean M. Jevesok of Canfield; a brother, James Surack of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and three grandchildren, Scott (Cheryl) VanSickle and Kelly (K.C.) Freeburn of Charlotte and Joseph of New York City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Tricia was born July 19, 1988 in Youngstown, a daughter of Allen Thomas and Linda S. Graf Lenio, and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a senior at South Range High School, planning on attending YSU and majoring in education.
She was a member of the church.
Besides her parents, she leaves two sisters, Kristen L. Lenio and Lauren Lenio, both of Canfield; her maternal grandmother, Irene Graf of Boardman, her aunts and uncles, Ronald and Vicky Lenio of Queens, N.Y., and Joseph and Margie Graf of Clarkston, Mich.; her cousins, Brian and Mary Beth Graf, Laurie Graf, and Sonia Zappata.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Joseph Graf; and her paternal grandparents, Alexander and Florence Lenio.

Her family will remember her as a dedicated and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Mary was born June 3, 1926 in Struthers, the daughter of Peter and Helen Zornjak.
She was a homemaker and an avid mall walker, a member of St. Matthias Church and a former member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, where she belonged to the Holy Rosary Society. She also was a 50-year member of SNPJ Lodge 153 of Youngstown.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Mackos, whom she married May 17, 1947; two sons, Joe (Dee) Mackos of Youngstown and Don (Sherene) Mackos of Cincinnati; a daughter, Judy (Sam) Pizzoferrato of Las Vegas; five grandchildren, Ryan, Lara, Marisa, Pam and Tina; and a brother, Steve Zornjak of Youngstown.
Four brothers, George, John and Lou Bezjak and Frank Zornjak; and three sisters, Anna Osikiewicz, Sara Zubrinich and Barbara Drosdzal, preceded her in death.

Evelyn Louise Olinger, 82
AUSTINTOWN Private services were held for Evelyn Louise Olinger, 82, who passed away Friday morning, Jan. 12.
Evelyn was born June 3, 1924 in Albion, Pa., the daughter of Robert and Gladys (Marshall) Curtis.
A homemaker, she attended the Four Mile Run Church in Austintown. She enjoyed playing bingo and the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Menzo Beverly Olinger, whom she married Nov. 7, 1939, passed away Oct. 29, 2003.
She leaves four sons, Claude (Carol) and John (Elizabeth), both of Salem, George of Austintown, and Frank (Coleen) of Berlin Center; a sister, Florence Hillard, and a brother, Charles Curtis, both of Albion; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Doris and Eugene; a sister, Betty Knall; and a brother, Melvin Adams.

Samuel A. Sam Orlando, 73
BOARDMAN Services will be Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Rossi Bros. Funeral Home, Boardman, and 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church, Youngstown, for Samuel A. Orlando, 73, who passed away Thursday evening with his family by his side from a brief battle with cancer.
Sam was born Feb. 3, 1933 in Youngstown, the son of Nicola and Lucia (Appugliese) Orlando, and was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1951 graduate of East High School and attended Youngstown College.
Sam was employed as a meat cutter for Century Foods, Loblaws Grocery Store, and then for Mahoning Sparkle Markets. He then became a meat supervisor for Mahoning Sparkle Market until their closing. Sam also worked for the Peter J. Schmidt Co. in Youngstown and Seaway Foods in Cleveland as a meat merchandiser until his retirement in 1999. He most recently worked as a consultant, writing the advertisements for the meat departments in the Sparkle Group in Youngstown area until the time of his death. He also was a Real Estate agent in the area from 1970 to 1980.
Sam was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, where he was a lector for 30 years, and was a former parish council member. He also belonged to St. Johns Church bocce league, Hope Cancer Support Group for 5 years, and the Senior Citizens Group of Boardman.
He enjoyed bowling, traveling to Mountaineer, and most of all being with his eight grandchildren.
He was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, of 53 years the former Genevieve A. Brak, whom he married Sept. 30, 1953; four daughters, Deborah Orlando, Janice (John) Cartwright, Judy Shirilla, all of Boardman, and Jackie (Mike) Giambattista of Canfield; eight grandchildren, Mark, Megan, and Amy Cartwright, Nicholas and Lindsey Shirilla, and Michael, Jamie, and Allison Giambattista; three brothers, John (Minnie) Orlando and Pat (Barbara) Orlando, both of Boardman, and Mike Orlando of San Jose, Calif.; two sisters, Rose (Frank) Tufaro and Mary Antal both of Austintown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Nicholas Shirilla, and a grandson Brian Cartwright.

Robert E. Otto, 71
YOUNGSTOWN Robert E. Otto, 71, of Youngstowns westside, passed away Friday afternoon at the Cleveland Clinic. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert was born March 31, 1935 in Aliquippa, Pa., a son of the late Raymond Grey and Catherine Healey Otto and came to this area in 1960.
He was a Korean War veteran, and worked at the GM Lordstown Plant for 30 years, retiring as an assembler in 2000.
Mr. Otto was a member of UAW Local 1112, and was a member of Lakeside Golf Course, where he played in the UAW Golf League.
He leaves his wife, Helen Olejniczak Otto, whom he married May 5, 1962; a son, Thomas Otto of Youngstown; two daughters, Sandra Otto of Aurora and Linda (Ed) Ponikwia of Centerville; a sister, Lois Jean (Grady) Alexander of Coraopolis, Pa.; three nieces, Cheryl (Sam) Ellis, Carol (Mark) Capuano, and Carla (Danny) Quinn; two nephews, Ronald (Valerie) Alexander and Todd Alexander; and five great-nieces, Jada (Jeremiah) Marek, Nia Capuano, and Felicia, Laura, and Amanda Alexander.

POLAND Dorothy A. Pinter, 83, died Friday evening at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Mrs. Pinter was born April 3, 1923 in Campbell, a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Volchko Kornyak, was raised in Youngstown and was a lifelong area resident.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke Catholic Church.
She leaves her husband, Robert J. Pinter, whom she married Nov. 27, 1947; and many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Pinter was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A Memorial Mass will take place Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church.

YOUNGSTOWN There will be funeral services Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Croatian Catholic Church for Miss Mary Alma Ples, 91, who entered into rest Thursday morning at her home.
She was born Feb. 22, 1915 in Youngstown, to the late Steve and Lucy (Spehar) Ples.
She was employed as a shipper at Superior Industries, Easco, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of the church, the Croatian Pensioners Club, the American Croatian Citizens Club and the C.F.U. Lodge No. 66.
She was also a member of the Traffic Club, the A.B.W.A., and the United Steel Workers.

Frank J. Plevniak, 87
RAPID CITY, S.D. Frank J. Plevniak, 87, passed away Wed., Jan. 17, 2007 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Frank was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is survived by his three siblings, Victoria Yakimovich of Austintown, George Plevniak of Youngstown, and Katherine DeBow of Franktown, Colo.
Visitation will be at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City today from 4 to 7 p.m., with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m., and then on Monday for one hour before services at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City, with Father Andrzej Wyrostek and Deacon Greg Palmer as celebrants.
Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City with military honors by TREA.

Andrew E. Tekac, 85
PULASKI, PA. Services will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in New Bedford for Andrew E. Tekac, 85, who passed away Saturday morning in Shepherd of the Valley.
Mr. Tekac was born Dec. 22, 1921 in Struthers, a son of Joseph and Mary Tekac, and was a lifelong area resident.
He retired as a steelworker from the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. after 37 years of service.
He was a member of the church and the Jednota
His wife, the former Mary Louise Mayberry, whom he married in 1944, passed away May 14, 1993.
He is survived by a son, Richard (Rosellen) Cookie Tekac of Pulaski; two daughters, Donna (Larry) Weis of Pulaski and Sherry (Bill) Depp of Austintown; six grandchildren, Vicki, Larry, Lori, Brian, Kimberly and Tracy; three great-grandchildren, Lexie, Brandon and Kamille; and a brother, George (Marie) Tekac of Lowellville.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Steve, John and Joe Tekac; and a sister, Ann Lechwar.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Robert Bob Edward Tomm, 78
HERMITAGE, PA. There will be services Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 5130 E. State St. in Hermitage, with the Rev. Richard C. Rowe officiating, for Robert Bob Edward Tomm, 78, who passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 18, at UPMC Horizon in Farrell.
Mr. Tomm was born Oct. 6, 1928 in Pittsburgh to Edward and Margaret Patterson Tomm.
He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953 with a degree in sociology.
Bob married the former Margaret Egan on July 10, 1954. They moved in 1966 to the Shenango Valley, where until his retirement, he worked as the director of continuing education for the Shenango Campus of Penn State University in Sharon.
From the age of 14 until his passing, Bob was a church organist and choir director for several churches locally and in Pittsburgh. Throughout his retirement, he was also a piano technician and tuner.
Bob is survived by his wife at home; a son, Douglas Cameron Tomm of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and a daughter, Erica Ruth McCracken, and son-in-law Mark McCracken, both of Sharpsville, Pa.; he also leaves behind his former daughter-in-law, Vicky Xu; and his beloved granddaughter, Olivia Margaret Tomm, both of Milpitas, Calif.
Bob had a deep love for animals and was an avid reader.

Edward Uhlar
FORT MYERS, FLA. Private services were held for Edward Uhlar, who passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 7, at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers with his family by his side after a long illness.
Ed was born June 13, 1928 in Youngstown, the son of Andrew and Catherine (Garoncovsky) Uhlar.
He was a 1946 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and a WWII Navy veteran. He was part owner of Pernotto Office Supply and owner of the Colonial Motel in Salem. He was also a reserve deputy sheriff for Mahoning County. He was a member of AmVets, American Legion, and Slovak Catholic Sokol.
Ed is survived by his wife, Regina Midge Veres, whom he married Aug. 7, 1968; two daughters, Debbie (Rob) Werneke of Cleveland and Judy (Don) Knittle of North Jackson; three stepchildren, Karen Garman of Stow, Nancy (Joe) Keamey of Boardman and Chuck (Karen) Cowher of Baytown, Texas; seven stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepson, Ken Cowher; a stepson-in-law, Jerry Garman; two brothers, John and George Uhlar; and a sister, Mary Kuhar.
He will be interred at Western Reserve Veteran Cemetery in Rittman.
Rose Wolfgang, 89
STRUTHERS There will be services at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Clemente Funeral Home in Struthers for Rose Wolfgang, 89, who died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Rose was born April 1, 1917 in Leetonia, a daughter of Michael and Johanna Figura Sosenko, and was a lifelong area resident.
She had worked as a welder for Truscon Steel during WWII and had also worked for Mullins Manufacturing and Alliance Manufacturing.
She was a member of the Struthers Methodist Church, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Rebeka Lodge and the Eastern Star.
Her husband, William Wolfgang, died March 8, 1984.
She leaves two sons, Keith and Richard Wolfgang, both of Struthers; a brother, Stephen Sosenko; two sisters, Julia Skoworon and Margaret Sanor; and she also leaves four grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William Wolfgang; and four brothers, Jacob, Nick, John and Andrew Sosenko.
