Lucy Chill, 91

HUBBARD – Lucy Chill, 91, formerly of New Castle, Pa., entered eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 21, at Liberty Health Care Center.

She was born April 2, 1915 in Boyers, Pa., the daughter of the late Andrew and Philomena (Campana) Print.

She was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard and was active in their renewal program. She also participated in the Sacred Heart Retreat House Renewal Program in Liberty. She was a former member of St. Vitus Church in New Castle, participating in their Alter and Rosary Society and the PTA for St. Vitus School.

Her husband, Nicholas T. Chill, whom she married June 22, 1937, passed away March 31, 1992.

Lucy was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by six sons, Richard (Edie) Chill of Houston, Thomas (Pat) Chill of Warren, David Chill of New Castle, William Chill of New Haven, Conn., Regis (Angie) Chill of Girard and Martin (Mindee) Chill of Austintown; five daughters, Rita Letorneau of Lowellville, Cathy (Paul) Milligan of Youngstown, Susan (J.V.) Ferrara of Hubbard, Evelyn (Anthony) Ciccone of Austintown and Christine Fisher of Girard; two brothers, Edward Print and Donald Print, both of New Castle; three sisters, Helen Dardynski of Colorado, Annabell Lowrey of Colorado, and Grace Papst of Texas.

She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, Karen, Kay, Pam, Steven, Tony, Christy, Tom Jr., Kevin, Valerie, Sarah, Amy, Shelley, Frank, Jeremiah, Zechariah, Nick, Matthew, Jessica, Emily, Jacob, Anthony, Zachary and Cassidy; and 16 great-grandchildren, Morgan, Kelly, Janie, Peyton, Andrew, Katelyn, Hannah, Jacob, Haley, Skyler, Julia, Andrew, Cameron, Samantha, Danielle and Elisha

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jane Jermakowicz; a brother, Louis Print; and two sisters, Veronica Randall and Mary Pica.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McClurkin Funeral Home in Girard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Rose Church with prayers at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery in Youngstown.

Edward S. Conrad Sr., 93

POLAND – Edward S. Conrad Sr., 93, died Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was born in Portage, Pa., a son of Charles E. and Emma Griffith Conrad, and came to this area in 1955.

Mr. Conrad was a graduate of Altoona High School and graduated from Altoona Business College. He was self-employed and worked as a food broker.

He was a member of the Poland United Methodist Church, where he was an adult Sunday school teacher, for more than 30 years. He also enjoyed traveling all over the world. He was a private pilot and owned two airplanes.

His first wife, the former Victoria B. Leonard, whom he married March 15, 1941, died Feb. 2, 2002.

He is survived by his second wife, Janet Chittock; two sons, Hank Conrad of Poland and Edward G. (Beth) Conrad of Howland; and two grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Mr. Conrad was preceded in death by two sisters, Rilla Jones and Edith Stark.

Friends and family may call from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday at the Poland United Methodist Church, where services will be at 7:30 p.m.

Minnie M. Edgar, 94

NILES – Minnie M. Edgar, 94, of 5296 Guinness Court, Dublin, Ohio, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born May 13, 1912 in Rontandella, Italy, a daughter of Nicholas and Victoria (DeBernardo) Franco, and came to the United States as a child, living most of her life in Trumbull County.

She married Charles D. Edgar in 1932 and he preceded her in death Feb. 20, 1971.

She was a housewife and enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an avid baker. During WWII, she worked at the Lordstown Ordinance Depot and in later years was a cook for Saint Stephen’s School and Saint Stephen’s Rectory.

Mrs. Edgar was a member of Saint Robert’s Church in Cortland and Saint Stephen’s Church in Niles.

She is survived by three sons, Richard (Shirley) Edgar of Cortland, Nicholas Edgar of Niles and Charles (Mary Ellen) Edgar of Cortland; two daughters, Sandra (Jack) Downing of Dublin and Vickie (Don) Bell of Girard; a brother, Dominic Franco of Warren; a sister, Rose Savini of Girard; nine granddaughters, Tracy Hendrickson, Joyce Smollen, Beth DelVecchio, Kimberly Pucevich, Jennifer Juillerat, Marissa Platt, Sarah Edgar, Robin Humphrey and Richelle Rathburn; and a grandson, Charles C Edgar; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Franco, James Franco and Tony Franco; and three sisters, Edith Lawson, Mary Belcastro and Lucille Fusco.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home in Niles.

There will be funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Saint Stephen’s Church, with the Rev. Carl Kish, officiating.

Burial will be at Saint Stephen’s Cemetery.



Ronald Lee Ford, 71

LAKE WALES, FLA. – Ronald Lee Ford, 71, passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, at Winter Haven Hospital in Winter Haven, Fla., of cancer.

He was born in Somerset Township, Pa. and moved to Lake Wales from Warren in 1998.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Crossroads Community Church in Auburndale, Fla.

Mr. Ford was a printer for the Youngstown Vindicator and a pre-press plate maker for the News Chief.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Anders Ford; sons, Dr. Ronald Andrew Ford and wife Beth of Winter Haven, Richard Alan Ford and wife Leslie of Louisville, Ky. and James John Ford and wife, Deanna Garber of Cincinnati; a daughter, Amy Lee Carlton and husband Herbert of Winter Haven; sisters, Florence Morton of Reseda, Calif. and Shirley Gray of Peoria, IL.; and grandchildren, Tori, Matthew, Jordan and Lee.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, at the Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home at Glen Abbey in Auburndale.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Crossroads Community Church. Burial will follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.


Stephen A. “Doc” Glozer, 85

YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Matthias Church for Stephen A. “Doc” Glozer, 85, who passed away Sunday morning at Omni Manor.

He was born June 9, 1921 in Perryopolis, Pa., a son of Michael and Sophia Kolba Glozer.

Mr. Glozer was a shipper with Republic Steel, retiring after 43 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII.

As an avid bowler and golfer, he was a member of Jednota Golf League and Tin Lizzies Bowling League. He also was a starter and ranger at Reserve Run Golf Course. He coached Little League, Pony League and Class B Baseball and was a member of Youngstown Baseball Old Timers.

Surviving him are his wife, the former Antoinette Cerimele, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946; two sons, Daniel (Kathy) Glozer of Boardman and Donald Glozer of St. Louis; a daughter-in-law, Karen Glozer of Youngstown; two granddaughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Mihok and Lisa (Brad) Straight; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Mihok.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Stephen Glozer; brothers, Michael, John, Andrew, George and Martin Glozer; and sisters, Mary, Sue and Anne. Also Mary Kolba, Paul, Joe and Frank Kolba.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Birdie, Betty and Chaunda for their love and excellent care of Steve and his wife Antoinette.

Jo Ann Houck, 59

POLAND – Services will be held at noon on Wednesday at the Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church for Jo Ann Houck, 59, who passed away Sunday afternoon at Hospice House.

Mrs. Houck was born May 5, 1947 in Boise, Idaho, a daughter of William F. and Dorothy Llewellyn Wert.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Mahoning County Educational Service Center for 28 years. As a member of the church and its Session, she also served in many other capacities as well.

JoAnn is survived by her husband, Jerry W. Houck, whom she married June 20, 1970; two brothers, Guy (Laura) Wert of Boardman and William E. Wert of Islamorada, Fla.; nieces, Cory and Casey Wert, Joyce Houck, Jennifer (Bob) Freed, Jeanine Walker and Kim (Jerry) Phillis; nephews, Tim (Robin) Houck and Ted (Kelly) Houck; and 17 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Ruth Llewellyn, and a niece, Christine Graham.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the church.

Michael A. Kazy, 88

BOARDMAN – Funeral services will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Kubina Yuhasz Funeral Home, Boardman Chapel, 5925 Market St., and at 10 a.m. at Saint Stanislaus Church for Michael A. Kazy, 88, who died Saturday.

Mr. Kazy was born Aug. 15, 1918 in Youngstown a son of Michael and Christine Repasky Kazy.

He was employed as a tally man in the 43-inch mill at U.S. Steel Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1976.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the 609th Tank Destroyer Battalion, seeing action in the Rhineland and Ardennes, and received three Bronze Stars. He was a member of the church and the Catholic War Veterans Post No. 1222.

He was an avid sports fan with Notre Dame and the Yankees, his favorite teams. He coached Youngstown Little League and Pony League Baseball teams for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and his rose garden.

Michael is survived by his wife, the former Helen B. Potkanowicz, whom he married Oct. 4, 1947; a son, Michael (Mary) Kazy of Cincinnati; two daughters, Dolores (Dr. Frank) Rich of Canfield and Patty (Dan) Rotar of Boardman; grandchildren, Mary Beth, Jeanette and Michael Kazy, Frank, Jeffery and Michael Rich, Danny, Matthew and Michael Rotar; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Joe, John and Martin Kazy and four sisters, Mary Matko, Sophie Kazy, Pauline Antonoff and Margaret Caspary.

Perry Kimmel Jr., 88

AUSTINTOWN – There will be services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Perry Kimmel Jr., 88, who passed away Monday morning at Hospice House.

Perry was born Oct. 2, 1918 in Austintown, a son of Perry Royce and Goldie Lawrence Kimmel Sr.

Perry was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School. He served in the Air Force as a flight instructor. he was a self employed carpenter for most of his life.

His wife, the former Mae Thomas, whom he married May 15, 1943, passed away Jan. 22, 1992.

Perry leaves three daughters, Jackie L. (Tom) Miller of Austintown, Sharyn A. (Ken) Aldridge of Katy, Texas, and Terri L. (Walter) Sheely of North Jackson; a son, Perry R. (Pat) Kimmel of Canfield; three sisters, Ruth Purnell of Canfield, Mary (Ray) Penney of Canfield and Virginia (Arnold) DeWalk of Hubbard; a brother, Earl “Jim” (Helen) Kimmel of North Jackson; four grandchildren, Kelly Tobin, Karen Miller, Perry Kimmel and Sommer Sheely; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, Perry was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Roy Kimmel and Merle “Mike” Kimmel.

Margaret Ligore, 86

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Church in Youngstown for Margaret Ligore, 86, who passed away Saturday afternoon in the presence of her family.

Margaret will be always loved and remembered by her family and friends.

She was born Aug. 11, 1920 in Youngstown, a daughter of Gaetano and Philomena (Finamore) Latessa.

Margaret was a homemaker and worked as a cook for Mr. B’s, the Fountain North and then at the Georgetown until her retirement. While at the Georgetown she became known as the “Pasta Queen.”

She was a member of St. Patrick Church in Youngstown and the St. Anthony’s Guild. Margaret loved pitching softball, ballroom dancing, and gardening. She also volunteered at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for bake sales and the St. Vincent de Paul clothing drives. Margaret was very proud to be part of the women’s work force during WWII.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Her husband, Carl J. Ligore, whom she married June 28, 1941, died Sept. 17, 2004.

She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Carl (Erin) Ligore of Youngstown; three daughters, Saundra (Paul Jr.) Kopnisky of Youngstown, Carlette (Ronald) Chordas of Boardman and Deborah (Michael) Mikita of Boardman; 23 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Zachary Chordas; her brothers and sisters, Romeo, Ercelia, Rudy and Peter Latessa; and her half brothers and sisters, Joseph, Tony, and John Santucci, Adeline (Gabriel) Sinistro, William, Mildred and Joseph Latessa and Alice West.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Rossi Bros Funeral Home, Boardman, where a Cursillo Bible Vigil will be held at 8 p.m., and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Albert F. Muhleman Sr., 94

CINCINNATI – Albert F. Muhleman Sr., 94, a recent resident of Llanfair Retirement Community died Sunday, January 14.

Born July 21, 1912 in Alliance, he had lived in Girard most of his life.

He was a machinist at Alliance Machine in the 1930s and then worked at US Steel in McDonald for 33 years before retiring in 1967.

Albert enjoyed fishing and camping in Canada with his family.

Mr. Muhleman leaves behind his son, Dr. Albert F. (Patty) Muhleman, M.D. of Cincinnati; grandchildren, Todd (Purlen) Muhleman and Missy (Dave) Klotz; great-grandchildren, Sophia, John, Rachel and Ryan; a sister, Lucille Green of Alliance; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Catherine (Blizmick) Muhleman on March 19, 2005; his parents, John and Rose (Holzer) Muhleman; and a brother, Willard Muhleman.

Private services were held at the Sharer-Stirling-Skivolocke Funeral Home. Interment followed at Highland Memorial Park.

Sol E. Newman, 89

YOUNGSTOWN – There will be services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at El Emeth Granada Avenue Cemetery Chapel for Sol E. Newman, 89, who died Monday morning at Heritage Manor Jewish Home for the Aged.

Mr. Newman was born June 13, 1917 in Moravska-Ostrava, Czechoslovakia, the son of Dora and Max Newman, and grew up near Perehinsko, in current southwest Ukraine.

In 1934, he came to the United States and lived in Philadelphia for 10 years. He moved to Canton and then Youngstown, where he operated two mercantile stores, The Fairway and Sav-mor, until 1969.

For the next 20 years, Mr. Newman worked as a men’s fashion consultant at Hartzell’s Rose & Sons and a salesperson at the Outdoor Army-Navy Store in Boardman. Customers were known to leave the store handsomely outfitted and sure to return to have their needs satisfied always beyond expectation.

Following his retirement, Mr. Newman proudly fulfilled his lifelong thirst for learning, taking numerous courses at Youngstown State University, excelling with high marks, and often leading classroom discussions that were captivating and educational, even for his instructors.

Mr. Newman was well known in the local Jewish community, assuming leadership roles in many organizations including B’nai B’rith, the Youngstown Jewish Federation, and the Zionist Organization of America. He received many accolades, including the distinguished Judge Louis D. Brandeis Award, for his tireless dedication to Judaism, Zionism, and the State of Israel.

Mr. Newman was an active member of his synagogue, Temple El Emeth, for more than 50 years, serving as a board member and chairman of the ritual and education committees and regularly chanting services and assisting in liturgical readings from the Torah. Congregants were delighted by his beautiful voice and mastery of Hebrew and welcomed by his warm and outgoing personality.

Mr. Newman was also a loving husband and father. He worked diligently to safeguard his family’s wellbeing and promote his children’s education and success. He will always be remembered for his unusual personal integrity, tenacious self-discipline, and the impeccable standards by which he led his life.

Mr. Newman leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Beatrice, to whom he had been married for 53 years at Heritage Manor; and his son, Marc a family physician in Philadelphia.

He was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Morris; sister, Evelyn; and daughters, Stefanie Joy and Estelle.

Contributions may be made to the Stefanie Joy Newman Fund for Creative Therapies for the Impaired in care of the Temple El Emeth or charity of the donor’s choice.

Hilda M. Ruehle, 90

LOS ANGELES – Hilda M. Ruehle, 90, passed away in Los Angeles where she was a resident for 63 years.

She was born Dec. 5, 1916 in Youngstown to Benjamin F. and Freda (Scharsu) Ruehle.

A glass worker for 50 years, she was employed by the Owens Illinois Glass Company. She also worked for Anchor Hocking, from which she retired.

She is survived by a brother, William “Bill” Ruehle of Cherry Valley, Calif.; sisters, Gail Dubow of Los Angeles and Helen Julian of Chino Hills, Calif.; and a niece, Lori Zupan.

Graveside services were held Jan 19 at 1 p.m. at Stewart Sunnyslope Cemetery in Beaumont, Calif.

Arrangements were handled by the Weaver Mortuary in Beaumont.


Emogene R. Seiple, 91

YOUNGSTOWN – Emogene R. Seiple, 91, formerly of Warren,, who lived at the home of her daughter Deborah and son-in-law Gerald at 1963 Thalia Ave. in Youngstown, died Monday, Jan. 22, at Hospice House in Poland.

She was born May 11, 1915 in Aberdeen, Miss., the daughter of Daniel A. and Mary Lou (Grady) Roebuck. She was a homemaker and had worked at Allen’s Bakery in Warren.

Emogene was an excellent cook and greatly enjoyed sewing.

She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Armstrong and her husband Charles of Warren, Carolyn Jones and her husband Gerald of Brookfield, and Deborah Hartshorn and her husband Gerald of Youngstown; five grandchildren, Terry, Roxanne, Dan, Kyle and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Porter Scott and Antonio; a sister, Opal Hawkins; and a brother, James Roebuck.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Cecil M. Thaxton in 1940 and Francis D. Seiple on May 5, 1991; five sisters; and a brother.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel, where a funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Gary Rozier of Hospice House officiating.

Burial will be Crown Hill Burial Park.

Albert F. Trolio III, 26

FT. MYERS, FLA. – There will be funeral services Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Wasko Funeral Home, 216 Coitsville Road, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Cyril & Methodius Church, 252 W. Wood St., for Albert F. Trolio III, 26, formerly of Youngstown, who entered into rest Saturday morning at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital.

He was very active at the YMCA, where he spent three to four days a week participating in numerous youth activities. He was also an altar server at St. Cyril & Methodius Church in Youngstown.

Before moving to Florida, he was employed by Hornyak’s Concessions, Trolio Auto Body, Buckeye Miller Company and Yustin Interiors. Albert’s favorite hobbies were Sally, his 2002 Honda Civic, and his motorcycle.

He was born May 1, 1980 in Fort Myers, the son of Vickie and Richard Hornyak of Coitsville and Albert and Sandy Trolio of Boardman. He attended school in Girard for 10 years and graduated in 1998 from Chaney High School in Youngstown.

He leaves many accomplishments and precious memories to be shared by his wife, the former Christine M. Long, whom he married April 22, 2006. He also leaves behind his parents; a mother-in-law, Ruth Long, and father-in-law, Carl and his wife Vickie Long; a sister, Toni M. Trolio and her partner Trina M. Coss; a sister, Tyler Trolio and a brother, Kory Trolio.

He has left behind his aunt, Barbara King of Florida; his uncle, William Laudermilt and his wife Angel Olson-Laudermilt of Lowellville; his grandparents, Mabel and Walter Laudermilt of Boardman and Irene and Edward Hornyak of Youngstown; his nieces, Jamileh, Erika and Livia Laudermilt, Melanie Coss, Lena D’Amico, Erin Bryan, Julia Kirchner and Mercedes Long; his nephews, Dominick, Anthony and Johnathon D’ Amico, Nicholas, Christopher, Tristan and Trenton Kirchner, Jordan Long, Justin Long, Mathew Pregi and Jacob Pregi.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Doris and Albert “Bert” Trolio Sr.; and his brother, Ricky Allan Hornyak Jr.

“Bert” will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
