Mary I. Eskay, 88
EAST PALESTINE Mary I. Eskay, 88, of 815 Kenmar Drive, formerly of Leetonia, died at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday at Assumption Village in North Lima, where she had resided for four years.
Mrs. Eskay was born February 9, 1918 in Monongahela, Pa., a daughter of Stephen and Irene Haluska Davner. She had lived in Leetonia for many years, moving to East Palestine in 1994.
She had been employed as a press operator at WM Inc. in Washingtonville and prior to that had worked at the DanDee Company in Leetonia for several years.
She was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Leetonia and the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine. She had been a member of LCBA Branch No. 909 and the St. Patricks Church Altar and Rosary Society.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Eskay, whom she married July 19, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Mary Ann) Istnick of East Palestine, with whom they made their home; a son, John (Barbara) Eskay of Washington, Pa.; a brother, Bill Davner of Arizona; four grandchildren, Rick (Anna) Istnick of Jackson Township, Brad (Shanna) Istnick of Kent and Michael Eskay and Krista Eskay, both of Washington, Pa.; and a great-granddaughter, Sofia Istnick.
Mrs. Eskay was preceded in death by three sisters, Wilma Bailey, Anna Welling and Helen Kiliany and four brothers, Joe Davner, Carl Davner, Steve Davner and Frank Davner.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Van Dyke-Swaney Funeral Home in East Palestine, where the St. Patricks Church Rosary Group will lead Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Leetonia, with the Reverend Thomas McCarthy officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Leetonia.

Melvin R. Greenberg, 64
CANFIELD There will be services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Melvin R. Greenberg, 64, who passed away Thursday morning in Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Melvin was born Sept. 9, 1942 in New Castle the son of Louis and Virginia (Sitler) Greenberg.
He was a graduate of The Rayen School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the U.S.S. Hancock. Melvin retired from General Motors Lordstown in 2002, where he had worked for 30 years. He was a member of the UAW.
Melvin leaves a daughter; Sheila Winger of Goodyear, Ariz.; a sister, Joan Cominsky of Austintown; a granddaughter, Taylor Winger of Goodyear; two nieces, Cindy Cominsky of Austintown and Lisa Jordan of Canfield; two nephews, Guy and Rick Cominsky both of Austintown; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Morris Kholos, 84
SALEM Morris Kholos, 84, went home to be with his Messiah at 9:40 p.m. Sunday from Essex of Salem No. 1. He had been a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was born Oct. 13, 1922 in Pittsburgh, the son of Max and Eva (Grodner) Kholos. He moved to Salem in August of 2001 from Pittsburgh.
He had worked at the Westinghouse Electric Company in East Pittsburgh until his retirement. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during WWII, a member of the VFW and was a Messianic Jew by faith.
He is survived by his children, Mark and his wife Cheryl (Arkwright) Kholos of Salem, and Rhonda Alderman of Pittsburgh; his twin brother, Henry and his wife Rose Kholos of Pittsburgh; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Phyllis Mandler; two sisters, Rae Klawier and Leah Rabin; and two brothers, Jules and Frank Kholos.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Chapel of the Salem First Friends Church with Melva Libb officiating. The Salem AMVETS Post No. 45 and Salem VFW Post No. 892 will provide full military honors at the conclusion of the service at the church.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Mr. Kholos will be entombed at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home in Salem.
Edward L. Lombard, 93
FORT MYERS BEACH, FLA. Edward L. Lombard, 93, peacefully passed away Jan. 23 after a short illness.
Born in May 23, 1913 in Youngstown, he was one of three children of Emanuel and Irene Lombard.
After attending Youngstown College, Mr. Lombard served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII. He retired as president of Allegheny Contracting Industries in Pittsburgh after 35 years with the firm. He was responsible for runway construction at the original Pittsburgh Airport, major portions of the Pennsylvania Turnpike and other Interstate highways in Pennsylvania, as well as other heavy construction projects, including a Miami, causeway.
After frequent vacations to Ft. Myers Beach, he and wife Margaret moved to the area as permanent residents in 1982.
Always an active member of the Catholic Church, Edward was a valued parishioner, Eucharist Minister and an avid participant at the Church of the Ascension in Ft. Myers Beach. He will be remembered fondly as an unselfish giver to his family, his friends, the Catholic Church, as well as many charities. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Italian by descent, he enjoyed many visits to Italy to the regions of both of his parents birth and was delighted to be able to entertain as many family members as would join him on several of these visits.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Margaret D. Lombard; daughters, Patricia Poulsen of Squaw Valley, Calif., and Carole Lombard of Corte Madera, Calif.; his sons, Edward E. (Shirley) Lombard of Ft. Myers Beach and Dr. William (Dr. Linda Leum) Lombard of Bellingham, Wash.; four grandchildren, Mark Leydecker, Criss (David) Troast, Lt. Col. Edward A. (Gwen) Lombard and Jennifer Lombard; and five great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Carson and Derek Leydecker and Conrad and Margaret Troast.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 26, at the Walter Shikanys Bonita Funeral Home, 28300 Tamiami Trail S. in Bonita Springs.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Church of the Ascension, 6025 Estero Blvd., Ft. Myers Beach, FL 33931.
He will be interred in Pittsburgh.
Memorials in Edwards name are suggested to be made The Church of the Ascension or to St. Vincent de Paul Society in care of the Church of the Ascension.

Barbara L. Stewart Meredith
LAKE MILTON Barbara L. Stewart Meredith died Jan. 23 at her residence.
She was born April 23, 1930 in Jewett, the daughter of Byron and Winifred Stewart of Jewett.
She had been a teacher in the Canton city schools. She founded the Canton Mothers of Twins Club and was its first president.
Barbara was a member of the Delta Chapter OES and of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Canton for many years, where she also taught Sunday school. She was an antiques and collectables dealer as an avocation. She was proud to have been a junior canteen girl during WWII in Dennison, where she greeted the troop trains with sandwiches and cookies.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Harry; sons, David (Irene) Meredith of Chagrin Falls, Dennis and Dwight Meredith of Akron and Douglas (Iliana) Meredith of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and three granddaughters, Jennifer Meredith of Columbus, Michelle Meredith of Chagrin Falls and Lauren Meredith, currently at Virginia Tech University.
Cremation has taken place.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Methodist Church in Jewett.
The family requests memorial tributes be sent to WKHR Inc., FM 91.5, 17425 Snyder Road, Chagrin Falls, OH 44023, a commercial free, listener supported radio station.
Arrangements were by the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.
Mary A. Opsitnik, 91
YOUNGSTOWN There will be services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown for Mary A. Opsitnik, 91, who died peacefully at her home Tuesday evening surrounded by her family.
Mary was born Jan. 20, 1916 in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Mary Stanko Klein and was a lifelong area resident.
She had worked in the upholstery department of General Fireproofing for several years. She was a member of the church and had been a former member of St. Cyril and Methodius Church in Youngstown. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening, but most of all, she enjoyed looking after her family.
Her husband, John K. Opsitnik, whom she married June 1, 1940, died Nov. 10, 1995.
She leaves two sons, John (Dick) Opsitnik and his wife, Barbara of Felton, Del. and Donald A. Opsitnik and his wife, Patty of Poland; a sister, Helen Eusanio of Boardman; four grandchildren, Leah Foy, Nikki Opsitnik, Andrew Opsitnik and Elizabeth Opsitnik; and two stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Herold and Michele Gross.
A sister, Margaret Jackson and five brothers, John, Joseph, Stephen, Albert and Edward Klein, are deceased.
Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass at the church.
Contributions may be made to the church.

Mary M. Patrone, 85
YOUNGSTOWN There will be services at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Westminster Presbyterian Church for Mary M. Patrone, 85, of Omni Manor Health Care Center, formerly of East Boston Avenue, who died Wednesday evening at her residence.
Mary was born Jan. 14, 1920 in Lowellville, a daughter of Paul and Margaret Perrott Butch.
A homemaker, she loved to cook and bake, and also enjoyed gardening. She was a very active member of the church where she was also a member of its choir for many years.
Mrs. Patrones husband, Joseph, whom she married Feb. 23, 1941, died Jan. 1, 1982.
She is survived by a daughter, JoAnn M. (David) Anderson of Boardman; a son, Donald J. (Lenore) Patrone of Canfield; and a brother, Albert Butch of Edinburg, Pa.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Rose; and two brothers, Michael and Adam Butch.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Anstrom-Velker Funeral Home, 75 E. Midlothian Blvd. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Gloria M. Perrotta, 78
NEW CASTLE, PA. Gloria M. Perrotta, 78, of 911 Richview Drive, died Wednesday afternoon at Jameson Hospital.
Mrs . Perrotta was born Oct. 29, 1928 in New Castle, the daughter of Frank and Anna Marie Catalano DeMase.
Her husband, Fred S. Perrotta Sr., whom she married June 27, 1948, died Jan. 23, 2000.
She was a member of St. Vitus Church and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include two sons, Fred Jr. and wife Billie and Frank and wife Vicki, a brother Rocco DeMase, a sister Rose Effinite, and two grandsons Aaron and Fred W., all of New Castle.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Rudy DeMase.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Ed & Don DeCarbo Northside Funeral Home, 3000 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vitus Church with entombment to follow at Parkside Cemetery Mausoleum.

Robert A. Ress, 84
AUSTINTOWN Services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Boardman and at 11 a.m. in Saint Christine Church for Robert A. Ress, 84, formerly of Oran Drive, Youngstown, who died Wednesday morning at Saint Elizabeth Health Center.
Mr. Ress was born April 29, 1922, in Youngstown, a son of Louis M. and Anna K. Kaibas Ress, and was a lifelong area resident.
He graduated with the class of 1940 from The Rayen School and continued his education at Youngstown College and University of Illinois.
He was the chief plant engineer with Sharon Steel, Brainard Strapping Division in Warren and Rock Hill, South Carolina. Bob was a charter member of Saint Christine and a veteran in the United States Army during WWII, where he was a sergeant in the 71st division.
Besides his wife, the former Marilyn J. Lyden, whom he married Oct. 15, 1949 he leaves two daughters, Marilyn (Joseph) Pollifrone of Stuart, Fla., and Laura Ress of Chicago; two sons, Robert A. (Judith) Ress, Jr. of Carmel, Ind., and James E. (Kelley) Ress of Boardman; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Robert III and Diana Ress, Christine, Matthew, Mark and Caroline Pollifrone, David, Michael, Nicholas, Katie and Maggie Ress; a brother, Charles Ress of Phoenix; and two sisters, Margaret Ress of Youngstown and Martha Lyden of Poland.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Yost; two brothers, Louis Ress Jr. and Edward Ress; and two sisters, Anna Adams and Wilma Ress.

Etta Wharton
YOUNGSTOWN Etta Wharton, of Fifth Avenue, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Forum Health Northside Medical Center.
Etta was born April 29, 1936 in Bullock County, Ga., the daughter of the late Nathan and Eulee Weaver Bailey.
She moved to Youngstown from Laurelton, Queens, in 2005 after retiring from Phillip Morris Inc. 120 Park Ave. in New York City. When living in NYC, she was a member of The Long Island Board of Realtors, was owner/operator of Perfect Start Inc., a childrens daycare, and was owner/operator of Ettas Locker Room Sporting Goods in Queens. In Youngstown, she was a member of The Youngstown Symphony Guild and Friend of The Butler.
Etta leaves a daughter, Adrienne Denise Bradley of Youngstown; two sons, Christopher D. Rhame of Youngstown and Gregory Rhame of Atlanta; a stepsister, Laura E. Wharton of Pocono, Pa.; a brother, Eusher Bailey of Bronx, N.Y.; two sisters, Inez Ray of Columbus and Beatrice Peoples of New York City; and five grandchildren, Bianca L. Bradley, Lashawn Rhame, Gregory Rhame, Russell L. Bradley Jr. and Tahira Rhame.
Calling hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, and a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at McVean, Hughes and McClurkin Funeral Home, 711 Wick Ave., Youngstown, OH 44505.
Burial is at Tod Homestead Cemetery on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown.
Earl A. Winner, 54
AUSTINTOWN Services will Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel, for Earl A. Winner, 54, who died at his home Thursday morning.
Earl was born June 28, 1953 in Warren, the son of Delmar J. and Betty L. Burton Winner.
He was a 1971 graduate of Austintown Fitch High School and a fan of local races and enjoyed NASCAR. Earl was a self-employed as the owner operator of the Winner Agency Truck Brokerage.
He is survived by his wife, the former Roseanne Waldorf, whom he married Sept. 30, 1978; his parents of Austintown; three daughters, Jessica and her husband Rich, Erica Winner and Kayla Winner; a son, Earl Winner of Boardman; a sister, Lou Ann Hammond and husband Sam; a sister-in-law, Gail Winner; three grandchildren, Makenna, Cameron and Xavier; his goddaughters, Lauren Bachinger, Ashton McEvoy and Amanda Winner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Todd J. Winner.

Lesta E. Woodworth, 90
AUSTINTOWN There will be services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel,, for Lesta E. Woodworth, 90, who passed away Wednesday morning at Clare Bridge Cottage Care Center.
Lesta was born Oct. 15, 1916 in Youngstown the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Collins) Ludt, and was a lifelong area resident.
She worked in the office of General Electric, and also worked for the Sears department store for 20 years where she retired as a department manager. She was a key punch operator for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and also sold real estate for a few years.
A Protestant by faith, she was a member of the Saxon Club and its bowling league, its Mr. and Mrs. Golf League and its retirees group. She was also a former member of the Leffingwell Country Club and its womens golf league. An avid ballroom dancer with her husband, they belong to numerous dance clubs in the area.
Her husband, Vaughn Woodworth, whom she married July 13, 1936, passed away April 29, 1992.
Lesta leaves a sister, Evelyn J. Ludt of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Nancy Farmer and Wendy Racki; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank N. Woodworth.

Grace Zedaker, 94
LAS VEGAS Grace Zedaker, 94, formerly of Masury, died Friday, Jan. 19.
Grace was born Jan, 1, 1913 in Butler County, Pa., a daughter of William H. and Ina B. (Allison) Shook.
A 1932 graduate of Sharon High School, Mrs. Zedaker worked in the Westinghouse T Building during WWII. She also worked for Sharon Brick & Tile as an office clerk.
She was a member of the Brookfield United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Methodist Womans Club, and she was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Sharon, Pa.
Survivors include her sons, Ray Zedaker of Hubbard and Tom Zedaker of Las Vegas; her daughter, Ann-Nita Allender of Newton Falls; her 14 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; and her three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry L. Zedaker, whom she married April 30, 1934, and died Jan. 17, 1999; her son, Edward Zedaker; her brothers, Jay, Roy, and Kenneth Shook; her sisters, Ora Schmidt, Hazel Griffith and Lois Lengauer; her grandson, Timothy Zedaker; and her great-granddaughter, Samantha Jane LaRocco.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Madasz Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday with Rev. Dennis Bewley, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
