Stephen C. Amer, 36
LIBERTYVILLE, ILL. Prayer services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Church in Canfield for Stephen C. Amer, 36, who died suddenly Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
He was born July 19, 1971, in Cleveland and graduated from Canfield High School in the class of 1989.
Stephen was the vice president and chief financial officer for Maclean-Fogg Co., in Mundelein.
He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and earned his MBA from the University of Chicago.
He was an avid poker player and was known as the best poker player in Chicago.
Stephen enjoyed riding his Harley and playing golf with his dad. He had many friends and was committed to his work.
At Stephens request, he unselfishly donated his organs to help others.
He is survived by his parents, John and Frances Carroll Amer; a sister, Kathleen (Scott) Hackwelder; a brother, Michael (Aimee) Amer; a cherished girlfriend, Rebecca Egge; nieces, Emily Hackwelder and Alana Amer; a nephew, Ryan Amer; and his canine companions, Harley and Junior.
Friends may call Monday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel.

Mary H. Babnic, 85
BOARDMAN Funeral services for Mary H. Babnic, 85, who died on the morning of June 20 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center, are Wednesday at 9 a.m. at Kubina-Yuhasz Funeral Home, 5925 Market St. in Boardman, and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Matthias Church in Youngstown.
Ms. Babnic was born in Youngstown March 20, 1923, a daughter of Steven and Julia Kvoriak Babnic.
Mary served in the U.S. Army Air Corp of Nurses from 1946 to 1953. In 1950, she was certified as an anesthetist by the Grace School of Anesthesiology in Detroit, Mich., and in 1961, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Youngstown State University. She was employed as a Nurse Anesthetist for the Youngstown Hospital Association for 38 years, retiring in 1987. An active member of St. Matthias Church, she took part in the church choir, the Infant Jesus of Prague Guild, and the Golden Echoes Senior Citizens Group. She was both a Reader and a Eucharistic Minister at Mass. She served the local community by volunteering to teach Slovak to those interested in learning the language.
Mary held membership in numerous professional and community service organizations. Among them are the Retired Nurses Association, the American Nurse Anesthetist Association, the Military Women in Service Organization, Jednota, and Slovak Catholic Sokols. She was a member of the board of the Youngstown Slovak Sister Cities Program, as well as a life member of the YSU Alumni Association and a permanent member of ROTC. Mary also served as president of the American Slovak Cultural Association, which promoted Slovak cultural activities including the annual Slovak Vilija Dinner. She was a past-president of the Catholic Nurses of Youngstown, the Youngstown Hospital Alumni Association and the Ohio State Nurse Anesthetist Association. In addition, she assisted with production of the WKTL Radio Slovak Hour for many years. In 1983, she became the program director. She also served as treasurer of the WKTL Boosters Association.
Mary is survived by her nieces, Diana (Dean) Colaianni of Boardman and Judy (Tim) Babnich of Wichita, Kan.; her great-niece, Maria (Denny) Riley; her great-nephews, David, Steven and Robert Colaianni; and by her great-great-nephew, Nathan Thomas Riley.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Stephan A. Babnich Jr. and by her sister, Dorothy Babnic.
Visitation is at the funeral home today from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
A prayer service will be held today at 4:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Julia Benson, 97
NEW SPRINGFIELD Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana for Mrs. Julia Benson, 97, formerly of New Springfield, who passed away, June 21, at Essex of Salem after a brief illness.
Mrs. Benson was born on March 25, 1911 in Youngstown, she was the daughter of Andrew and Julia Yuris and the adopted daughter of Francis and Minnie Brown.
She was a graduate of Springfield Township High School, class of 1929. She was a homemaker.
Julia was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Springfield and she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Mrs. Benson had a deep love of family. She and her husband loved to garden and raised and harvested thousands of quarts of strawberries and raspberries.
